Thanks Tom! Yes, that wood has some real depth of character. It's almost 3D from that side view.

Thanks Louie!! I had been thinking that same thing. Can't wait to see that optical illusion.

Here are a couple of pics I really like. John makes this very cool "label" which isn't a label at all but it certainly has a nice "peek-a-boo" effect. The "K" is a combination of white and gold mother of pearl. A classy touch.

It's like, you look in the hole and as Gomer Pyle might say (mustering up my very best Gomer imitation...) "well looka in there!! SHAZAM Andy!!"

Thank you! We're making some progress for sure now. John and I decided on radial purfling. He has the arm bevel in place and was kind enough to throw a little bit of "joy juice" on it to shine and color it up for the photo.

Louie, Actually, the only pics I have you're seeing...John hasn't shared any others with me, but I gave him the freedom to add any that he wants...we'll see what he does .

So....on a related topic, Photobucket has apparently caught up with me...i've been paying them monthly and yet they sent me a simple message a few days ago saying they were cancelling my account...very interesting indeed. Now, all I see are the plethora of ads when I try to access the thousands of pics I have collected there. I have several options I'm looking into, but for now, be sure to look at the pics that are here now as photobucket may take them all away soon. They have apparently decided the best business strategy they can employ is to aggressively make enemies and push people away.

I think their certain demise will surprize nobody.

Default Ready to travel

Travel to Tony the finishing magician.
What you see here is alcohol sprayed on the back and sides. It was a trial to get a picture without patches of the alcohol drying. I'm was not completely successful. The binding iS Boise d'rose which is purple but darkens up under finish. This pic does not show the purple at all. The top was not sprayed except for a small area in the lower bout. The pigments in the rosewood tend to dissolve and bleed and I'm trying to keep the top white. I wish Tony good fortune.

John, Those pics look great. Thank you for posting those! My wife and I celebrated 38 years of "marital bliss" today so I've been a bit distracted. Nice work!!

Thanks guys. It came through the ugly tunnel OK. My guitars go through a stage where they look like they came in second in a knife fight, what with tape and glue smears everywhere. That may not be unique in the luthier world or it could be that most everyone else is tidier.

We need an ugly stage thread.

Very nice brother! Really attractive. And I love the idea of an ugly stage thread.
It really would surprise a lot of people just how rough they can look before the "acceptable" pics hit the net.
