yes, I'll definitely stop in to play it. However, Connecticut is a very dangerous place. I wouldn't be surprised if a nefarious character or two make off with your guitar. I'm not saying that it will happen. Just preparing you for the worst.

Just sayin', if it disappears, don't come looking in my house for it, especially in my guitar room.

C'mon John, you have plenty of guitars. You need to share the love...especially love somebody else paid for!

True. But, I don't have a Fairbanks ... yet.

And once you own a Fairbanks guitar it's like you stepped back 70 or 80 years in the past and bought a vintage guitar in new condition. Nothin like it. The craftsmanship, tone and look is complete in one guitar that's new.

Mr. Fairbanks has been working his butt off on my guitar, and these are some of the coolest pics to date. Today was fingerboard day...LOVE that piece of Madagascar!!!
Working on the inlays... Drilling for the side dots...

Great pictures. Can you tell me more about the second last picture, the one with fingerboard being clamped into a bow?

"When I install the frets the board is compressed into a backbow. If I glue it on like that it won't be a straight neck, and the fretboard extension will be diving down. Forcing the board into an upbow and letting the hide glue set relaxes that and after a day out of the clamps the board settles nice and straight. It's then ready to glue onto the neck blank without introducing any extra tension. I fret the board before it's attached to the neck because it's a hell of a lot easier and also avoids any chance of the extension pushing down into the upper bout any more than it has to after its strung up."

Thank you for sharing all these build photos! You'll enjoy having this visual history of your guitar for years to come.
To whet your appetite for this guitar, check out the F-45 and SJ that are at The Music Emporium right now -- your guitar will be no less stunning in looks and sound! Dale makes such wonderful guitars and I always get excited when someone else on the forum ends up with one. You are in for a treat. |
