European Luthiers, who's out there making fine guitars?
The thread on the finest luthiers in the Northwest of America (and i guess Canada as well) was pretty interesting with more post's being made, so as a European i'd be very interested to hear of the finest European luthiers. From what i know there was a good showing of French luthiers at Montreal but don't really know much about them.

George Lowden comes to mind immediately. McIlroy too. Fydle, Furch and Lakewood... But these guys, although superb, have somewhat of a "factory production" facilities. I am sure there is a bunch is individual luthiers too. I would be interested to know them better myself! :-)))

In my search for luthiers in the UK - Stefan Sobell came to the top of the tree as highly recommended. Based in Hexham 20 miles from Newcastle he has a HUGE selection of Brazilian Rosewood. Prices start at @£8k and 14/18 months build.

Two of the best are Rudie Blazer & Willi Henkes (Blazer & Henkes) in Tuebingen, Germany. Great guitars made by some great guys! I have a 000-45 and an OM-42 from them... remarkable instruments!

There are some excellent builders in sweden: Rasmussen, Sandén, Sundström. I played some guitars by the first two and they hold up to anything out there.

My references to individual luthiers was about guys who work alone or with one or two helpers, and make perhaps 20 to 50 guitar per year. P.S. I don't know much about McIlroy production level. I was under impression that he has a kind of shop that produces a few hundred instruments per year. My impression was based on availability of his new and used instruments. I may be wrong in the respect that he is in fact one of those individual luthiers with smaller production.
