Pick Mark in fretboard
Question: I have pock mark on my fretboard about the size of a pinhead. Should I leave ity alone? It's absolutely harmless, but I am wondering if I should do something to prevent it getting bigger. I once heard that filling in with superglue then sanding down lightly might work. It's a rather expensive guitar though, and I don't want to damage it. Rosewood fretboard, if they makes any difference. Thanks!

I would chalk it up to "wood varies" and leave it alone. More likely to have an "OMG!" moment fixing it than ignoring it.

It does not sound like it needs immediate attention so if it were mine I would simply wait until the next time I had it in for a professional set-up and at that point ask the luthier to take care of it. As has been pointed out, wood varies and rosewood is a bit more porous than ebony. Ebony is more expensive though and that is why it is usually used on expensive guitars rather than rosewood.

I can't imagine why it would get bigger. I'd leave it alone.

Leave it be, in my opinion.

Hi Seadra,
I’d leave it be. It’s not likely to be an issue.

If it doesn't have a crack extending out then it's almost certainly a natural occurrence and not something to worry about. I had a Hummingbird once that a Gibson builder nicked with a chisel, and that divot was much larger than what you describe and I felt no need to deal with it. The fretboard is glued to a large chunk of wood and is probably one of the most stable areas of the guitar.

Hmmm.... surprised nobody's said this: both Ebony (especially) and RW get wormholes, which is what this might be. (Can't tell w/o pics.) If that's the case, a drop of superglue scraped flat with an XActo is an easy remedy, though it's not necessary to do anything. If it were mine, and if the fretboard is ebony, I would do the old epoxy/india ink mix, use a toothpick to fill, and scrape to level. Because I have guitar OCD. Smarter people would say, "It's wood, dude. It's fine."
