Default Is it all in the numbers. . .

. . . or the letters?

Since the "lettered" Taylors (DNx, GAx, etc.) are discontinued and I'm sure many of us LOVE those Taylors (at least I do), would you rather get a used lettered Taylor or get new (or old) numbered ones? Just curious.

I think those are the best guitar-for-the-price in the Taylor family.

I prefer no cutaway and no electronics and I can easily forego bling.

I have two of them and love them.

Knowing manufacturing business models (very well) I am confident that Taylor makes a greater profit margin off the current models. Businesses don't discontinue money-makers.

So, that means they make more profit off the things that are differentiators (like the electronics and the "bling").

Without those things, you get more guitar for your money.

Personally I think the best value Taylor is a GA3.

My personal favorite is the GC7 which I am blessed enough to own one of.

Have loved my DN8 for 7 Years and find no reason to trade it in for a new 800 series.

I like the lettered series because I do not like cutaways or electronics, and I do think they are bargains. That said, last year I bought a new 324 Blackwood (no cut or electronics), and it is a terrific guitar.

I prefer the factory non-electronic, non-cutaway models and enjoy my GS5 w/ Baggs pickup over any of the several 814 or 816 models I've owned.

Default New vs old

Old. As in 90's before the NT neck redesign.

They just had a fuller sound. Lots of threads here on that subject.
