Clearly a Fedex issue. Driver stated he delivered to a garage, OP does not have one. It may have been CYA, or it may have been inability to parse addresses.
After 18 years in my current house, I still find packages misdelivered numerous times a year. Now our new USPS delivery person is having issues. I actually look forward to getting humans out of the delivery process.

Four Christmases ago, we were visiting with family on Christmas eve and got a FedEx ring the door bell and run delivery. The package was addressed only to Mike (my name). I ripped it open and it contained the oddest painting I have ever seen. Looked like Sasquatch walking through a fog of mosquitos on a sunny beach.
Completely baffled, I assumed it was a joke. This was the weirdest thing I had ever seen x10. Just weird. It sat, leaning against the wall with our 4 and 6 year olds running around. Two days after Christmas, a strange guy shows up at my door. Pale and very shifty. He says his name is Mike and "did you get a painting?". I gesture the to painting leaning against the wall....he smiles and says "yeah, that's it". He tells me it's worth a small fortune and he's been very worried, picks it up and B lines for his minivan. One of the strangest things that has ever happened to me in my life! |

Guys keep track of eccentric millionaires whose unusual hobby it is to anonymously send priceless modern paintings to complete strangers. Knowing most people will think "What the heck? My six-year-old can paint better than that!" they show up a couple days later claiming the painting was delivered to the (usually relieved) recipient by mistake & is really meant for them. From your description, it sounds like the painting in question was Andy Pollock's "Sasquatch Walking Through A Fog of Mosquitos On A Sunny Beach", estimated value fifty bazillion dollars. |

I don't know how the law stands in America, but here in Britain in a similar situation my purchasing contract would be with the retailer. It would be their responsibility to sort the problem out, not the delivery outfit whose contract would be with the retailer. I don't pay Fedex/DHL to deliver; the shop which sold me the stuff does.

That is my understanding of how it works here, too, Andrew. The customer has no contract with whoever delivers the product, only the seller. It is the seller who must either provide the product or a refund.

Sorry for your frustration. I've had a couple recent shipping issues so can sympathize, however this is not GC's fault at all.
GC gave the package to FedEx who admitted they took possession of it and claim to have delivered it. This had NOTHING to do with Guitar Center and disparaging them over this is wrong. Guitar Center is being told the package was delivered by FedEx. What are they supposed to do? If FedEx agreed they lost it or claimed they never got it then GC should replace it but this is between you and FedEx.

The Fed Ex and UPS delivery in my area is horrible. I try not to have them deliver anything if possible. When I order thru GC I have it sent to the store then I pick it up. It not only saves the delivery headache, they don't charge for shipping when you do that.
I've had packages thrown out in the yard in the rain, one was left in the driveway, right on the path of a teenager coming home from high school, about to be run over. I used to have things delivered to my work, but they added a "warehouse manager" that is about the laziest person I've ever seen. There's no telling what he will do with the package.

Press Fedex to have the driver show exactly where he placed the package by the garage.

FWIW I often get emails saying things were delivered to "Porch" when they are left by my side garage door.
So it may have been delivered to you and then stolen. |

My FedEx delivery guy is REALLY good. He often brings me Scotch that I have to sign for so we often talk. (What did you get this time?)
Last month he brought me a $750 Spalding Golf Bag. (It was the most garish thing that you have ever seen.) He asked me if I played golf. (I don't.) Turns out someone had used my credit card to buy and ship a golf bag to my house. Apparently they hoped to pick it up off of my front porch but the FedEx driver foiled them by standing on the porch until the bag was in my hands. I shipped it back to Spalding. USAA credited my account and sent me a new card. |

As I stated earlier, I would try to get in touch with someone further up the food chain at GC and ask for some intervention. If that fails to get action, I would likely take his position and not purchase from them again. I would also write an email or a letter to that person's superior and let them know my feelings as to how this was handled and that GC not only lost me as a customer but I will take every opportunity to discourage others from purchasing from them. If I were GC, at this point, I would issue a refund, apologize and offer the customer a gift certificate. I doubt any of that will happen.

Many great, and ... not so herein. It's only a $50 purchase but I would be upset at FedEx. Their delivery vehicles are owned and operated by the person who owns the route - not FedEx. To me GC did their job, FedEx may or may not have. What if they DID deliver it and a porch-pirate absconded it? Who do you blame? I always require signature for all deliveries - but I live in a building with 24-hour front door personnel so no signature will be missed. You can also have deliveries sent to a holding site, kept at FedEx for pick up or sent to work if your neighborhood has had delivery problems.
Either way, in the end, fuming about it won't help. Contact your credit card company and dispute the charge. Money is where the leverage is. GC is not responsible here (to me) but they could have helped. FedEx accepted the legal responsibility here when they contracted to deliver and they claim they delivered - but they have no signature to prove it. You are holding the short straw until you get your credit card company to dispute it. In the end pointing fingers and blaming the company you purchased from has not helped you and is certainly not the forum for addressing the issue. PayPal is almost always on the customer's side when no "proof" of delivery is available. If you didn't sign for it, there is no proof of delivery. Always require signature or delivery to a secure location if it is important to you. |
