As a relative beginner (little over a year in) and playing 100% acoustic, I'll say most of the time I'm quite content to keep things unplugged, but then when I hear something like this:

I'm immediately looking at listings for used Les Pauls. I'll probably resist for awhile longer, but I definitely lust for an electric, not to play in a band or anything, but just to explore a different avenue of guitar playing. I'll surely get one eventually...

About 50/50 myself. Enjoy my electrics and my acoustics.

You may be overthinking it. I like a Tele because it is good for almost any style of music, except maybe Metal.

It is a slippery slope. First comes the one electric. Then comes the 8 different amps...

So true. You need a Fender for that lush clean sound.
You need a Marshall to rock.
You need a Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier for that deep heavy metal tone.

You will also need a pedalboard with a delay, chorus, tube screamer, reverb........

I started on electric..Gibson SG when I was in 5th grade. Played in bands in college. Still have a LesPaul and a Schecter. Kind of need to be in a band to make it work.

I have an ES-335 and a Princeton Reverb - so sweeeet! - a nice change from my Martins - opens up a whole new world of sonic possibilities...also makes me look at acoustic in a new way turn when I return to the Martins - so yeah, get an electric

I am acoustic only and have absolutely no interest in playing the electric guitar 🎸. It doesn't fit the style of music I like to play.

So similar to my story, except I have 6 years under my belt.

I took the plunge today. A buddy gave me a screaming deal on his (one owner) Ebony 2010 Les Paul Studio in Excellent Condition. I played several different iconic electrics. Always loved the LP, ever since the mid 70's when a friend had an original 58' gold top. After trying out a bunch I found that I really liked the sound, feel and playability of the LP.
Funny how these things work out. Back then I never thought about playing
guitar...now I have 3 acoustics, one electric, and a custom acoustic in the
works.

Get an archtop. It's still acoustic...but you can sure have fun with the toys you can plug into it !

I have the most fun with this one. Guild NS X175 Manhattan. Well under $1000. I think you can pick one up for around $700.

Jim Root Of Slipknot and Stone Sour always used Teles. With humbuckers of course! [emoji13]
