Another one for C F and G. I learned from a book titled Twelve Bob Dylan Songs Playable with Three Magic Chords. This was 1966. From there I bought the book, Twelve Peter, Paul, and Mary Songs Playable with Four Magic Chords. That one used G, Em, C and D, so I only learned two more chords. At this point I must know at least a dozen chords.

Honestly, I can't remember. I tried to teach a friend to play and my suggestion was "Horse With No Name" Em & A2; Chordwise that seemed about as easy as you can get, although the strumming was a bit challenging.
I ve seen this comment here (and previously) and I strongly disagree: i think i learned G chord first. and i learned it the wrong way... without using your pinky. I think you should learn them both; as they each have their advantages depending on where you want to go and what you want to add. |

C, D, and G will take you to the Road to Glory if you let it.

C, G, D, A, F, E, Em, Am, Dm, F, B7, Bm, etc. I'd already played baritone uke for years and grew up in a family of guitar players.

Am, C, D, F, E/E7. Those chords will give you House of the Rising Sun, my first ever song, taught by a classmate at Hulme Grammar School in Oldham, Lancashire. How my fingers suffered to get those chords out!

I learned C and G7 first.
I tend to teach Am and E as the first two "big" chords. |

G (ring finger style - have since changed to the pinky style), C and D.
Those are good for about a billion songs. Have since progressed............after 50 years, I should hope so!!!
