This is one of Michael's first 00-size guitars, from 2009. I had a small part in designing its shape. This one is LS redwood over Panamanian rosewood.
You can read my extensive review and see a lot more photos here. .

For the most part, when I play guitars, innocent bystanders experience the "bullet to the chest" effect.

His work is so clean, and I have always loved what he does with a headstock design!

Back in my early days getting to know the handbuilt world, it was a Bashkin that tipped me over the edge. It had ebony back and sides with some kind of spruce top and it sounded absolutely huge. It was for sale at Mighty Fine Guitars in Lafayette CA…and it restructured my understanding of what a guitar could be.
This is a beautifully constructed thread, bud. Brings me back to what the Custom Shop was years ago. |

Several years ago this video appeared in my YouTube recommendations. This was before I had really become fascinated with lutherie and fingerstyle guitar. To this day I am still mesmerized by the tone and beauty of this guitar (And Michael's incredible playing). The guitar in the video is a Michael Bashkin OM "Great Wave." Like some of the other guitars in this thread, it has a beautiful inlay done by Jimmi Wingert on the headstock. Just thought I would share this. Great thread! |
