Default Telecaster Recommendation

I need a recommendation regarding which Telecaster model is the best combination of playablility and tone. Is there one current production non-humbucker model that stands out (notwithstanding price considerations)? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Default Tele rec.

I like this one the best. It's the '52 Reissue w/ stringsaver saddles.

Check out the bottom of my signature. I'm making my own '50's Tele. Here's a progress picture for u.

that is nothing of the sort. It is the new American Ash Telecaster®. It has modern neck radius, 3 way switching, modern bridge and tuners. The part that is "like a '52" is the butterscotch stain. http://www.fender.com/products/searc...tno=0118502767

I think the 52', with the vintage saddle, is tough to be for tone. But it would be nice to have a modern neck radius....

Dave: I am selling one of my Telecasters for $699.00 including shipping. It's a fine guitar. Feel free to e-mail me at [email protected]. I have it posted here: http://www.thegearpage.net/board/sho...d.php?t=142683 .

I agree on the 52 Tele RI. I love my Copper Top.

never have been a fan of that old butterscotch color for some reason (ducks to avoid being hit by stones). just give me a standard tele (MIM), or one of the reissues with the f-hole. the MIM teles are really worth a close look these days.

This is tough to answer without knowing your budget, what type of music you're gonna play and what sort of neck profile, etc. you would prefer. Fender has a ton of great options for US-made, Mexican made & Japanese made Teles. I'd suggest you go somewhere like Guitar Center & try a bunch of them.

Some suggestions that you could try:

- The new standard Tele (MIM): Around $400 new - they have larger frets & neck radius than they used to prior to this year
http://fender.com/products/search.php?partno=0135102387

- Highway 1 (MIA): At around $625 new, these are the lowest priced US-made Tele
http://fender.com/products/search.php?partno=0111200367

- '69 Thinline RI (MIM or CIJ): $650 or so, semi-hollow body
http://fender.com/products/search.php?partno=0136902300

- 50's or 60's classics (MIM or CIJ at least for the 60's): Around $700
http://fender.com/products/search.php?partno=0131202303
http://fender.com/products/search.php?partno=0131600309

- American Telecaster: Just under $1,000
http://fender.com/products/search.php?partno=0118400725

- '52 RI (MIA or CIJ): Over a grand

I'm fairly happy with my "Mexican" Tele (Standard).

Love my American Tele. Vintage White (really kinda banana color) I switched the black pickguard for white. Almost went with the Mex model but the neck was nicer/fuller and the pickups were smoother (not so shrill... to my ears) on the American... worth the upcharge, though the Mexican is a heck of a value. Played through a tube amp... nirvana.

I dunno...there's just something about Teles....regardless of price or manufacturing origin. I bought one of the super el cheapo Butterscotch Blondes (I'm a sucker for all the above) and aside from needing the frets dressed and a few tweaks of my own it is wonderful and VERY Tele. For me, its all about that lipstick pickup and the classic tele neck...soooooo long.

Before you buy any high end Telecaster, I suggest you take a look at the Valley Arts Tele style guitars. They play really nice and I have never heard a Tele sound so good. Just a suggestion. Take it for what you will. But I have fallen in love with one.

Agree with the guy above. Not becuase I've tried those particular guitar, but because I reckon you'll get better quality outside of fender. Have you thought about looking at any G&Ls?
