Default Snuffy Smith & Kat Eyz Banjo Bridges

Hi Folks,

I'm liking my new Bart Reiter Galax more and more, the more I play it, and will probably keep it. I want to lower the banjo's bridge height from its current 5/8" height to 9/16" to make it a bit easier to play. I'm thinking that Bart Reiter likely installs a standard Stewart-MacDonald banjo bridge on his banjos and that's good but since I'm going to change the height of the bridge, my questions are:

1) Are Snuffy Smith and Kat Eyz banjo bridges, which are both made by Kat Eyz, worth their $29.95 Snuffy Smith, and $32.95 - $37.95 Kat Eyz prices?

2) If you have other brands of banjo bridges that you like, what brand do you like and would recommend for a Bart Reiter Galax 5-String Banjo?

Thanks!

Ken

I like the snuffy smith bridges a lot. I've owned some of the originals made by Snuffy when he was alive, and I've owned 2 of the current offerings and I've found them just as good.
I like them, and I think they helped any banjo I put them on.

Thanks, Daryl! It looks like I'll be ordering a Snuffy Smith this weekend.

I went through quite a few banjos and for clawhammer at least, I can't think of many that didn't benefit from a Moon bridge.

Thanks, Swamp, I'll consider that too!

I sent back my Bart Reiter Galax to Elderly Instruments in exchange for a Bart Reiter Regent Whyte Laydie. Why? I noticed a ding in the 11th-fret of the Galax and being that the setup was kind of high, I thought I'd give the Regent a try. As you probably know, the Regent is basically the same as a Galax but without the scoop and it has a maple neck versus the Galax's mahogany neck. I'll post more when I get the Regent.
