a second hole in my WS1000
tonight I installed a Baggs M80 in a RainSong WS1000 and in so doing, decided to remove the Fishman Prefix Plus-T system. Removing the preamp left a nice hole in the side. What a BIG difference that top hole makes - night and day regarding unamplified sound that reaches the player's ears.
Thought I'd post this incase you haven't tried this second sound hole; highly recommended Last edited by tomana; 06-02-2014 at 12:28 AM. |

Would the bezel of the Prefix preamp work? I've thought about removing the barn door preamp from some guitars and thought the bezel from the preamp might work to dress up the holes (which look pretty bad if left alone).

Someone is missing a bet here. Look at all the barndoors that could be sound ports begging for a nice cover to enhance the look. It can't be that hard. You could on CF guitars us a piece of CF and do some nice scroll work on the hole etc. Makes me want to try my hand at this. But the Fishman with a Aura Pedal is not bad so why go there right now?

Tilting out the barn door - even without removing it - would be an easy way to evaluate whether a sound port is valuable. It should also be pretty easy to make a trim piece for the hole if you decide to remove it entirely. Maybe the filler panel could be painted your favorite color (such as candy apple red metal flake from your sports car) or be an canvas for some bling or artwork to personalize your guitar.

rubber trim (1/32" channel groove). I tried to find the ebay listing I bought from ,but didn't see it in my history list so here's one that should work just the same ...
a nice added bonus is, I can reach through the opening and switch the M80 from active to passive Last edited by tomana; 06-03-2014 at 12:29 PM. |

I agree that's pretty nice. On my JM 1000 the preamp is on the lower bout wonder how that would be?

I just bought a BI WS-1000N2 with Fishman Prefix, but I really dislike barn-door electronics. If I bond with the guitar, in a few years I'd like to remove the Prefix and replace it with a better and more elegant looking pickup. If you would not mind, I would very much appreciate the opportunity to play yours to hear the difference from both soundhole and upgraded electronics. Do you live in So Cal?
