Default Long-time Ukulele Builder Launching New Guitar

I donʻt know how many people pay attention to the uke world here but over the weekend I saw that one of the three "K-brand" builders of the uke in Hawaiʻi launched a new koa guitar that looks wild...really pretty!!

https://www.kanileaukulele.com/shop/...kg-5-guitar-2/

It looks like they did a lot of weight reduction on the top and then added a contour to the top as well? Has anyone seen anything like this? I know this brand has worked with Taylor in the past so I wonder how much of their DNA is in this, since the price point is much closer to Santa Cruz or Lowden than it is to Taylor. Was curious if anyone had heard anything or has experience with the brand?

Yes, I saw this announcement. $15k for any acoustic is beyond my budget.

But the internal design does look interesting, similar to the new Martin Inception GPC.

Kanilea makes top shelf ukes and they are without a doubt, the most sophisticated marketer of any of the Hawaii ukulele brands.

Kanilea doing guitars might be like Martin doing ukuleles. I have a nice Kanilea uke but I think their prices are a bit high on most of them.

$15K?

Suddenly, buying a Lowden like Ray Kane did seems like a modest financial investment.

We'll leave this one to all you haole collectors that want to feel like islanders.

What an interesting looking guitar and novel take on the arm bevel. I wonder how they achieved the "wave" on the lower bout?

That is wild.

There's been a couple uke brands doing this. We all know Pono, but aNueNue started a guitar line recently too, with fascinating results in my opinion - I'd give it a shot if I could find one anyway, haha

I admire the work but I'd be afraid to breath on this beastie. Curious about what it sounds like, though

It's not like Martin hasn't made Ukes before...

I have 2 Kanilea ukuleles but at $15K, there are other guitars I would buy (were I in the $15K range).

One can order a matching set of the guitar and a tenor uke.

What's not to like
