Martin D28A 1937. It was expensive for me, but still feel like it was underpriced for how good it sounds and plays.

A Yamaha FG-335 I bought for $15. Sold it for $100.
It was a fantastic-sounding guitar. Although it had a laminated top, you wouldn't have known it.

Electric: The stock 1953 blackguard Fender Telecaster I bought in 1990 for $300.
Acoustic: The 1997 Martin D-45V I bought new at Gryphon. Not cheap, but it's the best sounding acoustic I've ever played. Very lightweight, plays effortlessly... the best value for sure. |

Hard to pick between the guitars in my sig, and the '71 Martin 016NY I got for $200 in '74, and the '68 Tele I got for $250 around that same time, but I'd have to go with the 80's Ibanez bass for $57. off eBay ($102 w/shipping). I'm not a big spender.

For me it's Takamine AN10. All solid, made in japan, and affordable. I love the cedar top and mahogany back and sides combination!

A '71 Guild D-25 (all mahogany) dreadnought I picked up for $500 almost a decade ago.
It has outlasted a number of higher-end guitars I have acquired and subsequently sold in my never-ending search for tone.

I love my Lowden, but it's a beautiful sounding guitar for a lot of money - so that doesn't really qualify.
My 000-42 Marquis is a fabulous guitar for the money. It's really a magnificent guitar, easily worth considerably more than I paid.

Best value for money would be my used 2006 Taylor 810CE Fall Sitka/Madi at 2100 Euro, all others compare well for the prices I've paid for them but best sounding to me is a Martin D28 Authentic 1931 for 5000 Euro. Dollar and Euro are practically on par.

I should add my new D'Angelico Excel semi-acoustic; £1300 new. I got mine, brand new, boxed and unplayed for £629. Happy day!

Taylor 214ce DLX. Got it for 1100 brand new OTD with an amp for trade, and I think for that price it would be hard to find a better sound.

The next one (one arrives today). If your next purchase isn't the best for the money, compared to all the previous guitars you've purchased, and of those you currently own - why bother?

2005 Taylor 814ce. It is the most playable guitar I have ever owned. Fast, easy neck, and perfect intonation. I removed the ES system and had a Dazzo SBT system installed. I have purchased and sold two Goodalls in the last two months... though they were great guitars, they were not worth the premium price compared to my 814ce.

The best guitar for the money I ever bought (well, actually my father bought it for me as a present when I turned 21) was a 1967 Martin D-35, which I still own. That guitar with hard shell case cost $350. It was on sale, 40% off list price at the time and that $350 was 1969 dollars.
But here I am, 2018-1969 = 49 years later still loving this guitar. That's not too bad in my book! My YouTube channel has a bunch of recordings using this old D-35. This is the latest in Show & Tell. And below is a good example of what the guitar sounds like finger picked. - Glenn
