Default preventing cracks on fingertips

So I seem to get these annoying and painful cracks in the top corner of some of my finger picking fingers and thumb. I use hand cream. Maybe not enough or often enough. I end up having to use fingerpicks which I'm not adept at using and they don't sound like my finger nails. Which by the way, seem to break more easily in the winter. My house is at a reasonable humidty, but where I work, not so.

I put nu-skin on the cracks, but it doesn't last very long.

Any suggestions on how to prevent?

Thanks
Karen

Crazy glue is what I use. I let it set for a few minutes then I smooth it down with an emery board.

Glue that my wife's nail tech uses. The stuff works great. But nothing works better than some serious hand cream. When mine get bad in the winter I use "Working Hands" in a little green container. It's pretty thick so the only time I can use it is right before bed. Otherwise it would drive me nuts? But...it does work!

I use hoof cream on my fingernails to prevent them from cracking. I use it year round by just brushing a coat on my fingernails.

I’ve just begun using O’Keefes Working Hands for dry skin and cracked skin. You know how some skin creams say they absorb in and aren’t greasy? This isn’t like that! To me it feels like it leaves a waxy coating on the skin, so I usually apply it in the evening before bed time. But it does seem to stop the cracking.

I hear you. Every Winter the cracks in the fingers are my signal to get humidifiers out.
Hand cream never seems to last long enough to work, but the "working hands" suggestion...it has paraffin in it and that might be worth a try.
This year I'm trying something I found that's really sticky and cheap.

Less than 10 bucks and a lifetime supply I reckon.

Always wear gloves when you go outside or are driving.

It does contain wax. Bees wax works for repairing cracked lips.
I use a product called "the Hand Stuff" on my hands Very similar to O'Keefes.

+1. When they are real bat I get the thin CA in there and squeeze tight for 30 seconds and it's good to go for quite some time.

This problem plagued me every winter when I lived in Maine and upstate NY. I blamed the low humidity, harsh winter weather, feeding a wood stove, and so on, and tried a variety pack of hand creams and related products for relief.
I learned that these products worked by sealing the skin of your hands to reduce natural moisture loss so cracks could heal.

It only seemed to work when I used it overnight, applying it just before going to sleep. During the day any hand cream product I used just ended up washing off in short order.

. . . keep your kitchen gloves handy when you're preparing food, and wear the appropriate gloves when outside and putting your hand on public door handles- the less you have to wash your hands as a flu precaution, the better for your hands. Stay hydrated, and consider maybe a little more olive oil in the diet?

Great suggestions here. I use Guitar Hands. It is a cleaner and lotion in one. Mane and Tail is also a good product. Staying hydrated is a good reminder for all of us.

Best,
Jayne

I'm not a doctor, but I understand these are symptoms of extreme dehydration.

You need a lot more humidification and hand cream to seal the body's moisture in.

During flu season (particularly this flu season) I'm washing my hands like Howard Hughes?

I use Aquaphor on my fingertips after I wash my hands and I wear gloves when I wash the dishes. I live in Utah, so it is very dry here. I grew up on the East Coast, so it was never a problem until moving to the desert.
