Has Anybody used Sipo, and how do you pronounce it?
Martin are producing the 15 series exclusively in sipo, which I imagine is probably indistinguishable from genuine mahogany as far as tone is concerned.
Over here in the UK the timber is never referred to as "Sipo", merchants call it "utile" (pronounced "you-TEEL-eh"). Any time I have used it (not on guitars) it worked just like mahogany. SO ... I have never heard the word "sipo" pronounced. Is it "sippo", "sigh-po" ,or "see-po" ? Also, has anybody used it on a custom guitar, and if so how did it turn out? |

I've always heard it pronounced See-po. I built my front door out it. Lovely stuff. It seems a bit denser than Honduras.

Thanks JD.
I was wondering how it behaved while bending but it doesn't seem like any builder here has ever has used it in a guitar. |

LMII is selling sets of backs and sides. I have also seen necks for sale out of Sipo.
