Thanks for your kind comments John. This build will not have an elevated FB but that is an intriguing idea.

I'm looking forward to it, Tim. As long as it's okay with Songwriterfan.

It's fine with me. Love to hear what you think of it. Probably won't be quite ready to play by then, though? |

These pictures are for Eire. He loves this step of the process ...
The neck is fit and the box has been pore filled. Today it's time to move on to final shaping of the neck... |

Which parts, Tim? Hacking through the pristine sides or stripping off the finish?

What are you using as a pore filler Tim?

Hey Tim, it's looking great!
I especially like the restraint shown in the trim out. Subtle, and very pleasing. Steve |

In this instance, I'm using Behlen's "Pore-O-Pack" paste wood filler. After raising the grain, sanding the entire guitar to 220, I seal the body with two coats of catalyzed vinyl isolante' sealer. After allowing the sealer to dry for a few hours, I fill the pores with the oil based pore filler. This process maintains the original color of the black walnut without imparting any stain which generally inhibits or clouds the natural beauty of the wood. This also ensures that the (walnut stained) pore filler only goes where I want it, into the walnut's open grain wood pores. Another benefit to this process is the sealer also protects the maple purflings from getting stained.
After a minimum of two days drying, I scuff sand with 320, apply one more coat of vinyl sealer and then I'll begin applying the final finish. Oops, that's probably more info than you needed? |
