I don't mean to derail but... I lost my Planet Waves NS tuner because it's so small. Prior to that, I had to replace the expensive battery, and try not to break the plastic parts. I decided that clip-on tuners are a great example
of planned obsolesence for the guitar community - they're going to break or get lost and will require expensive disposable batteries, thereby insuring the further consumption of more clip-on tuners and/or disposable batteries.

YMMV and IMHO of course, but Boss TU-3 for live use and Cleartune on my phone are my favorites. My Boss TU-3 will probably last forever, and I use Cleartune all the time at home - rechargable battery thanks to my phone and I always have it with me.

Great for home use. Highly accurate. Not great for live or gigging use. Clumsy & try clipping your iPhone or Android onto your headstock.

Usual disclaimers apply......IMHO, YMMV etc.
If you do open tuning like me & need to retune your acoustic for nearly every song, then you HAVE to leave it on the headstock. I'd suggest a camo colored tuner (just kidding) or maybe a black one. That tends to vanish into the background if you're playing live & the spotlight is on you.

But when I'm at home, I usually take the tuner off my guitar while I'm practicing my songs. Just takes a sec. I turn it off when done too to save battery power. Then... just clip it on again & retune for the next song. That's just my style. Yours most likely will be different.

I used to hate Snarks. Inaccurate. Jumpy. I got a Delta Labs green background & then the colored background one. Both fairly accurate for open tuning & doesn't jump around a lot. Then my best friend send me a Super Snark (I think that's the name) in sparklie red, for Christmas & everything changed.

It's even more accurate than the Delta Labs. It has thinner pie slices to show you how close in tune you are. The original Snarks had this big pie slice with too much slop / variance to hit the exact pitch.

I have a draw full of tuners like the Korg sound hole ones (jumpy), a Fishman clip on (pass), the Delta Labs (marginal) & a few others I have gratefully forgotten about.

I've dropped my Snark on carpet & it was fine. I've drug it around to various guitar stores in my bag with no damage done. I went out & got a 2nd blue one as a backup to the red one. That works fine too. I'll use both when I play out since they'll be retuning my guitars for every song. I've not twisted the Snark too much so I can't comment on the ball joint articulation. So far so good on it lasting.

If anyone wants any of my drawer full of orphan & unwanted tuners, just let me know.

I'm the same as the guy who said he doesn't like to spend more than $10 on a tuner. Some go for $30, others for $50? Why the heck is that?

I have a strobe clip. Very accurate tuner.but I found it impossible
To use in a gig situation were the crowd noise and other musicians
Tuning and playing...the tuner just seemed to pick up all extraneous noise
And would not perform well...but home on the couch it works real good.

Errrrmmm...I do open/alternate tunings as well as Standard, and I DO retune frequently between songs when I'm playing live and the spotlight is on me. I don't 'HAVE to leave it on the headstock'. One second to clip the tuner on, one second to take it off. No problem. Most of my peers do exactly as I do.

Yep, exactly what I do, no matter whether I'm at home, in a session, doing a floor-spot at a club, or gigging solo/with the band.

I repeat, one second to clip it on, one second to take it off. No problem. No reason to ever leave that wart on the headstock.

My tuner journey had led to the FT-2 for purely acoustic gigs, and a Turbo Tuner ST-300 for anything plugged in. The ST-300 is an order of magnitude more expensive than a Snark, but tracks down to the low B on a 5-string bass faster than I've ever seen a tuner do so. It's ideal for stage use in my experience.

I own Snark, Peterson and Polytune.

Polytune wins.

I started way back, with a stick-on Sabine, worked thru Planet Waves and Snarks and Petersons. Polytune wins by a mile.

I don't like things on my headstock, so at home it's often just mounted on my guitar strap right up near to the guitar. Works pretty darn good from there.
