In Fantasyland, a seventies Guild D-50 and an Eric Johnson Strat. In real life, if I had to unload all but two, my Guild D-35 and one of my parts Strats — the blue one.
Now you know. |

Probably a 00 mahogany and a 000 rosewood. Both short scale 12 frets.

The two that I already end up playing 99% of the time: J-45 (well, WM-45) and a 000-15SM

Selecting only two to comply with the question and limiting the choices to guitars I currently own (or have owned):
Atkin J43 Eastman E-40OM But I have some recent arrivals which may challenge that. |

If you were to own two guitars...
I have two trains of thought. One is of a narrower focus and the keeping of ‘sets’ of compatible guitars e.g. (two rosewood 12 fretters exclusively for fingerpicking), the other would be a broader approach where guitars are differing but collectively cover a wider range with each guitar filling in the tonal void that other leaves behind (e.g the dry, vintage and fundamental tone of my J-45 JT, paired with the lush, overtone laden roundness of my Sigma SDR-45).
Although tonally superb I would exclude both my Freshman guitars due to the narrower nut width. From my current guitars, and in the first scenario I would pick either: Collings 000 and Eastman parlour (really an 0 size), both spruce/rosewood. Sigma SDR-28MLE and SDR-45 (Adi/madi rosewood) and (Sitka/rosewood). Dave King L-00 and JT J-45 (both Adi/hog) In the second scenario I would pick one of either: Collings 000 and HD-12 custom (both 12 fretters but tonally the proverbial ‘chalk and cheese’). Sigma SDR-45 and Dave king L-00 JT J-45 and Collings 000. JT J-45 and Eastman parlour (tonally so different but both with large necks so a great combination) Sigma SDM-18 (euro spruce/hog) and SDR-45. Sigma SDR-28 and H&D DS- 12 fret If I had to choose right now in scenario one I’d go with my Sigma SDR-28 and SDR-45. In the second scenario right now I’d go with my JT J-45 and Eastman Parlour.

I’m happy with my OM-21 and my 1950 Epiphone Devon. One all-rounder and one carved comping monster. I’ve reached the point where I don’t crave endless stuff anymore, and someday my kids will have to get rid of it anyway.

One steel-string, one classical.
After 40 years plus of playing I’d probably keep the Taylor custom GA acquired a few years ago. Surprising warm for a Taylor with great string balance, a really good all rounder. The combination of sinker redwood and Macassar ebony dramatically changes the Taylor sound: the best 6-string Taylor I’ve ever played.
Would also need a classical guitar, so the double top I built a couple of years ago would fit the bill. It’s a very good, if not great classical instrument and constructing a double top with limited shop machinery is something I never want to do again! If someone wanted to give me a Hauser I, or maybe a Romanillos, I could be persuaded to part with the double top. |

If there were still ANY chance of gigs, my Collings DS2h, and my Martin D12-20 custom.
If I reconcile myself to the fact that I'll never "perform" again - then my Collings 0002h, and perhaps my Eastman E40-00. .... but I'm not ready to start selling off the collection as yet.

If I was given a wad of cash and was guitarless, the two guitars I'd buy would be an Atkin Nineteen and also their Dustbowl series 0014

It would be hard to conceive a life with only 2 , but for Acoustics it would be my old bell brass Dobro , and my PRS Steve Fischer Angelus.

As much as I love the woody mids and stout shimmering trebles of my Fairbanks 35, and I'm thrilled by the extended tonal palette of afforded by a sublime acoustic baritone, at the moment I'd take my Ditson 111 and a bench built rosewood 000 12 fret (hmmm, don't own this one yet).
Next week will doubtless yield another answer...

I would keep my OM-18V. And I would trade the other two for a Froggy Bottom, just because I've always admired and coveted the ones I've seen here on the AGF.

An electric and an acoustic. My LJ36 would be the acoustic. I haven't built the electric I want yet.
