Default Today's The Day!! UK Custom Build Finished... Blackwood / Bearclaw Swiss / Snakewood

Well, a very long wait is almost over - today is the day I collect my new guitar that I have been patiently anticipating for some time. It's been built by Ged Green in the UK, and it is just beautiful!

Firstly, the wood details:

Back and sides are master grade African Blackwood

Top is incredible Bearclawed Alpine Moonspruce

Bridge / Fingerboard / Body Bindings / Headstock are Snakewood

Fingerboard / Headstock Bindings are African Blackwood

To follow are some pics of the guitar in various stages of its' build. The bridge was attached yesterday (don't yet have a picture with this in place!!) and the bone nut / saddle are being fitted this morning, together with gold Gotoh 510 tuners. The guitar has been polished to a mirror gloss finish yesterday, but I don't yet have any pictures of the guitar following this process.

Ged has a friend who used to work at Lowden guitars, and this friend called by Ged's workshop a few weeks ago. When he tapped this guitar, he was blown away! Can't wait to hear it when it it's strung up....

(By the way, Ged tells me that the Blackwood is a lot darker than it appears in the photographs.)

Lovely looking guitar and love the snakewood - you must be very pleased!!

I have visited Ged's workshop for a set up - if I'm not mistaken he always uses bearclaw sitka. I thought about using Ged for my new guitar (due soon) but Brook just edged it due to my owning one already.

Hope you will post more pictures when it's complete and perhaps sound/video?

Thanks for showing

Hi Phil - I don't believe Ged "always" uses bearclaw sitka - in fact, I've seen other guitars that he's built that are definitely not bearclaw. This particular top came from the private reserve stock of Martin Guhl of best-eurospruce.com. I'll certainly post some finished pics as soon as I have the guitar, and some sound / video if poss.

Andy

Bearclaw Alpine Moonspruce - I like! Are you sure you are not holding this above a pool of water reflecting in the sun? Almost looks like quilted Maple. If it sounds half as good as it looks, I think you are in for a treat. Enjoy.

I love that snakewood! If I ever have another custom build I want one of those fingerboards on it. The sides look darker than the back - is that just the light? It's a fine looking instrument, regardless.

It's a trick of the light - back and sides are both the same. And thanks for the compliment, it sounds even better than it looks!

For personal (and unexpected) reasons I am reluctantly having to part with this guitar, so please look out for it in the appropriate section on this forum!

Very nice build! Love the snakewood fretboard/bridge and the crazy bearclaw top. Is that some kind of stone at the 12th fret?

That has to be one of the most exceptional looking acoustic guitars I have seen. If I only had the $$.....
