First off, I just want to say that I don't know John (cobraguy69), but I can certainly say that he should be a pleasure to deal with. He contacted me yesterday to offer some generous and creative ways to get this Hamblin back in my hands... unfortunately, there's just no way I can make it work. But I can tell he's a genuinely good guy.
I found some old pictures on my hard drive that I thought I'd share, since the outdoor lighting shows off the gorgeous flame a bit better. These are a few shots of the "Hamblin Triplets" that I once owned. From L to R in these pics are the cedar/mahogany SJ (that's for sale in this thread), the cedar/cocobolo SJ cutaway, and the cedar/rosewood SJ that's the "twin" to the one for sale here. |

That's Al Petteway playing the Hamblin in that clip. That should give anyone a good idea of what the guitar can do, at least for fingerstyle. Man... just hours after posting the pics above of the "Hamblin Triplets," I learned that my good friend and the original owner of the cedar/cocobolo Hamblin SJ in the center of those pics, Wade Thurman, passed away this week. Wade was the one who turned me on the Hamblins in the first place and inspired me to have the other two commissioned. That's just adding to this one's sentimental value. And so I have a small favor to ask of whoever ends up with this guitar: please let me know where it ends up so I can keep tabs on it. At some point down the road I'd love to reacquire it. Won't be anytime soon, though, so you can enjoy it for a few years first. And if anyone looking at this thread knows the whereabouts of either Wade's cedar/cocobolo SJ or the cedar/rosewood SJ "twin" to this one, please drop me a PM so I can keep tabs on those, too. |

That's awful news - I knew Wade hadn't been healthy for a long time, but thought he'd put some of the issues behind him. I finally met him in person at Tim and Mary's a few years back. This makes me very sad.

No problem. I tried to figure out a way to bring this home, but I don't see it happening anytime soon. So I'll be keeping an eye on where it ends up. Good luck with the sale. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Jim - If no one buys this guitar, we will work something out. This is probably the best guitar on AGF, but no cash buyer yet.

Well, John... since you've been so generous in trying to find a way to make this work for me, I guess I could just do a straight up trade instead of having you add cash on your end.
All joking aside, though, I sincerely appreciate your efforts. I truly do. Now... somebody please buy this wonderful guitar and put me out of my misery. We'll reschedule the reunion tour for a few years down the road. |

Took the Hamblin out and played it last night - wonderful guitar - don't know why I'm selling it, I just have to downsize.
