Default Any Suggestions/Tips for Rhythmic Percussive Fingerstyle

Hi all,
I am looking to improve my fingerstyle - specifically that kind of rhythmic percussive style that John Mayer, Jason Mraz, Ed Sheeran and others incorporate.

I have scoured YouTube videos and of course listen to these artists- just wondering if anybody has any good practice tips to improve thumb/finger independence and rhythm or any good book recommendations.

I am improving at this method but would love hear how others work on this technique? This forum is filled with knowledge and skill - thanks in advance.

Here is a good example of where I am right now:

As far as the chords, either a very exhaustive chord dictionary could help, or look at a book like the Fretboard Workbook:

http://www.amazon.com/books/dp/0634049011

I'm working through it slowly as an addition to my normal practice, and after several months I'm gaining the ability to know how to build extended and altered chords quickly - which notes to add or change to get to a M7th, 11th, 6add9, etc.

what an awesome thread and thanks for the Cordoba link. What a refreshing addition.

I already have my practice regimen setup ready to go.

I play steel string but have been interested in adding some Rodrigo and Gabriella style. This will get me on my way.
