D-28 on the way!!
I just got the tracking number for my D-28. I am pretty stoked especially because I have waited a long time to take the plunge. I told my (I mean mentioned in passing, I would never "tell" my wife) that I was going to buy another guitar. A Martin. She gave me a "look" but didn't say no or even hell no. That sounded like an OK to me. So I pulled the trigger.
It should get here on Thursday. I my just sit on my front step waiting for Fed EX. I'll update with photos etc after I get it. If I can put it down long enough to take pictures.

Congratulations!
The most famous steel string in history, and most copied guitar, the mighty D-28! I see you have a backpacker but I'll still say welcome to the Martin family, play it in health and happiness!

I just got done playing a gig with my 1975 D-28 (original owner). It was a solo gig playing my originals. I have quite a few nice acoustics- 2 '70's Guilds, a Taylor 110ce I bought last year (very nice for price) and a Larrivee 0M-03 I just picked up slightly used -which I also brought out and is also a great guitar -especially for the fingerpicked numbers. But you know what? The D-28 is still the go to guitar after the smoke clears. It's got a wonderful feel and does everything well. I can strum it hard and it just laughs at me. It's also wonderful to fingerpick with a fat bottom that the others don't have. Yes the newer guitars are more articulate in that dept. but the Martin is sweet. Oh yeah-and it's a flatpicking giant. Have fun!

Congratulations on the new guitar. I have played a couple of D-28 and liked them all.
LoneEskimo, I have a '75 000-28 as my go to guitar. I feel the same way: Best guitar I ever owned.

Good luck and enjoy one of the nicest guitars on the market! Best wishes Brian

Congrats.
I wanted a D-28 for about 30 years before I finally bought one. I kept it about a year and then sold it to buy something "better." I still wanted a D-28, so I bought a second one. Again, I kept it about a year and then sold it for something "better." And I still wanted a D-28. So I sold most of my other guitars and bought a third D-28. No matter what I had, I wanted a D-28 and I plan on keeping the one I have. Enjoy yours. It's a great guitar. Jim |

I checked out your link and my heart skipped a beat. This one is coming from Detroit Fed Ex to Salt Lake City. How long should I leave it in the case etc before I pull it out to play? Is it OK to pull it out to look and see if everything is OK them pack it back up and wait? thanks for the heads up. Kevin

I would guess that if it arrives cold then you could quickly look at it outside (where it's colder) and then box it back up. Don't open it up in the warm house for several hours. Leave it in the box/ case to acclimate.... |

If it is cold outside when the guitar arrives, bring it inside but do not open the box.
When the box has reached room temperature, you can open the box but do not open the guitar case. When the latches on the case have reached room temperature, it is okay to open the case and look at your guitar. Jim |
