Default copyright theft

I've received a post card dealing with Ferrick v. Spotify, a class action lawsuit against Spotify for using copyrighted music without a license. Has anyone else on this forum received such a notice?

I'm wondering if the invitation to join the class action is a scam. The Post card suggests that my copyrighted material may have been ripped off, but it does not tell me what work has be stolen or where the work has been utilized. Sounds fishy.

Not sure what it means to me. I envision that two months down the road I'll get a check in the mail for $2.12.

I was hoping for something like a million $. Boy, would I be surprised. In the meantime, I have not responded to the postcard. I suppose that Spotify might give my work away, but if someone were to ever make a big hit with my music I do have the copyright and I would have a lawyer.

I also have CDs of much of my work which would support my copy rights. I also have one of those CDs on goggle, blythinart.com). I think it would be sweet if someone made a bazillion dollars on one of my songs.

I received the same postcard, as well.

Haven't decided what to do...but my stuff has been on Spotify for a number of years.

It's not a scam.

I received the card in the mail today at my home in Canada. If I get something, I'll be glad it'll be in U.S. $.

Tom;

There is a lot that I fail to understand in the Spotify issue. In working through the postcard information I have been unable to determine if any of my work was actually robbed or if a million potential copyright holders were sent the card as a way of bolstering the legal challenge???

I have yet to go beyond the postcard for information and will be digging for more information before I respond to class action settlement.

Same here, but in my case I can't recall posting any music on Spotify! If they have been distributing my stuff, how'd they get it?

They are supposed to provide a database of song-plays, but it is not available. Also, the final settlement is agreed on by both parties, but has not been approved by a judge yet.

It's all very curious and even more confusing....

I think anyone who has music on Spotify (through CDBaby or other services) got it.
But, from what I read its music that would have been on Spotify through some other service or acquisition, so you would not have been getting the stream revenue.
