Default Low Humidity in New York :(

My guitars are acting crazy recently and I think it's due to low humidity. My Martin plays the same note on 12th fret high E String as 15th fret high E String.

I just can't wait until spring!

Yep. I have mine all cased with sound hole humidifiers. Sometimes I'll leave my Guild 120 on a stand for a couple of days and I'll get buzzing when capo'd on 2 and playing the upper frets. Back it goes in the case when that happens.

I keep my guitars out on stands and humidify the room. No problems with fret buzz/etc.

We have a baby grand piano in the same room that also has been doing well.

I just have to refill the (evaporative) humidifier once a day and replace the filter about every two months.

I’m in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

I leave the Martin in its case, and I'm still having issues with it.

Have you taken it to a tech?

What humidity are you reading in the case?

Are you supplying your guitars with any type of humidity? One great option is to wet a sponge, put it in a perforated ziplock bag, and put it in the case with the guitar. Check daily if you need to rewet the sponge. Make sure you keep the case closed when the guitar is out so that the humidity remains in the case.

Just putting the guitar in its case doesn't counteract low humidity if you don't put some kind of humidifying agent in the case. Cases aren't magic.

The case will also get dry in our area. Many dwellings are 10-20% humidity in this area at this time of year. If you are not humidifying in the case, and even the room on top of that, there is bound to be trouble.

This has been the craziest winter in Nova Scotia. I have not needed to humidify my Martin yet this year. Not boasting, I just wanted to share.
