That's an interesting attachment method, usually the bracket is used to support the shelf which either floats on the brackets or is attached to the tops of the brackets. I'm guessing the screws through the shelf pass through at 45 degrees (roughly) from the top or bottom side? Otherwise, those would have to be very, very long screws through a carefully bored hole through the shelf. You could get into trouble over your proposed 3 foot span. The screws-through-the-shelf might prevent sag if there is no weight on the shelf between the brackets

If that's the case, I'd be concerned about the possibility of the shelf cracking and pulling away from the wall. I would think it will be much better to secure the brackets well at 18 inch or 24 inch intervals (based on stud spacing) then attach the shelf to the top of the brackets to just keep it from sliding around

The project keeps coming up with annoying twists - literally! It’s needed a fourth bracket added and the shelf screwed to the brackets as well as the wall in order to achieve a state of LEVEL.

Still have one corner needs leveling but nearly there.

It does appear that the screws penetrate the shelf and enter the wall at a 45 degree angle, plus they are put thru a countersunk hole that seems to minimize stress on the point.(hope!!)

Here’s a progress shot. Over the sink on the lower shelf is a cutout where we will install a metal drain rack that I use when washing dishes. It used to be metal shelves with hanging drain rack (ala ikea) and I really like the over the sink drain feature/function. I am a little concerned about the potential for splitting the thin edges around the drain rack when the screws are attached.
Might consider an adhesive if I can find some thing that is meant for metal to wood bonding. Have a call in to my tech team.
Maybe tomorrow it will be finished. My end goal is nothing is on the counter, only on the shelves.

The shelves look nice. It's always nice to see the end of a project!
