After making the suggestion, I'm actually reconsidering my own "say to no ES1" ban on used Taylor guitars. I think if I stumbled on a nice used Taylor with ES1, I might get it and retrofit the electronics. My only issue is removing the neck. I'd have to watch a YouTube. :-)

Is the 1.3 a possible option?
It was standard in my 150e. And it's not an old guitar.

If I was gonna go aftermarket, I think I'd go with the K&K.
My only complaint with the ES is it's short battery life.
If I played three services every Sunday with weekly rehearsals and sound checks, the estimated 40 hour battery life would be about monthly changes to ensure I didn't experiment sudden ES battery failure.

I believe you have the ES-T system with the under saddle transducer and 9V preamp. There is no upgrade available for your model unless you have them drill the bridge. It would be cheaper to sell yours and buy their new 150e Walnut with ES2.

According to the identify your ES (for installation of the proper Taylor sense module) and Taylor customer service the ES in my 150 is indeed a 1.3.
I needed two sources of confirmation before I would believe it.
And I'm not unhappy with my 150. It completely rocks.

The OP is not happy with his 714 with an early AA version of the Espression System.

Sorry. Clearly I'm confused.

You probably have the "ES2.2". It would have the 3 behind the saddle piezo elements and the "new" reversion to the 1.3 preamp. Apparently the newer ES2 guitars are going back to the old preamp since it works better.

I'm pretty sure my guitar pre-dates the ES2.

Have a Taylor 710ce (2003) with ES1. Electronics crapped out - like yours. Yes, put in the ES2 with an included setup and once over at Taylor - $300 + shipping + 8 weeks without the guitar. I could have replaced the electronics with something different and kept the original in (or at least left the knobs) but didn't. I used to have a more discerning ear (gear snob) and used to think people in bars really appreciated the quality of my tone (wishful thinking rockstar wannabe) or that my pups would make my soon to be amazing album sound so much better in the studio (never amassed enough talent). So now, something that amplifies my sound - in the mix with the other instruments - works. And I have a great guitar with wood that is finally 'opening up' - not that I can really tell the difference anyway. YMMV.

Pickup system electronics are mostly very simple. If your pre isn't shorted, the fix is likely a loose plug or a bad solder joint, maybe a shorted UST. Nothing that $50 and an hour can't fix.even if you don't like it, you can just fix it for the resale value and the piece of mind.

Great suggestion.
That Mi Si system is very clever.

I'd probably put a K&K in it and leave the knobs. I don't find them obtrusive.
