Honestly, a good price and a "why the L not?" attitude. A LOT of X-braced guitars have passed through my hands.

Happy NGD!
That's what they tell me.

Thanks.

Congrats. I now have four Waterloos and they all sound remarkable.

Congrats on the Waterloo. I too thought I'd prefer the X bracing, but the ladder braced tbar I tried convinced me otherwise. Can't handle the big neck though, so am keeping my eyes out for a small neck or WL-12 at a good price.

Yeah, Waterloos guitars are great. I have a WL-14L and a WL-S Deluxe. They're two of my favorites. Enjoy yours!

I haven't played one of these, but nearly three grand for essentially a copy of a $12.75 (1933 prices), guitar, 'authentic' glue blobs and all, seems an awful lot of money.

Might seem expensive, but you can view the Waterloos as the Japanese Miata being the well-designed, reliable replacement for the cantankerous old British Lotus Elan. Finally a great roadster that's fun to drive and you don't have to worry about it breaking down on you.

No, clearly you haven't played one of these.

Congrats!

I have compared a bunch of Waterloos and walked away preferring the ladder braced version. But that might be because I am used to them. But I am more and more seeing the wisdom of going for a Waterloo and giving the Schmidt Sovereign and Stellas a break.

But what is becoming increasingly clear is that coming up with a proper firestripe pickguard has seemingly become a lost art.

Are the glue globs a little kitschy? Yes, I think so. But otherwise the build quality is outstanding. The nut is cut perfectly, its intonation is on the money and the overtones...am I supposed to be getting overtones from a ladder braced guitar?

Since when do Hiscox cases cost $600? I paid £75 for mine a few years ago. They retail at £105 now.

At the same time there's a marked decrease in the value of sour grapes.
