Default Halcyon Owners Inventory

I picked up #203, Lutz over Paduk, 000-12 fret. Sooooo darn easy to play and love the sound! Poor thing had been hanging out at Seattle Guitar Store unloved until I adopted her.

Looking forward to one soon;-)

That Nick Lucas looks nice. Ed, that must be your most popular model/shape? I almost went with that both times, but I float between love and not with my SC NL. Powerful volume on that shape, but my hog SC is also extreme on the vintage bluesy Gibson vibe, which is great for many tunes, but not wide open strumming rock or folky stuff, despite its volume. It’s also a supremo fingerstyle machine. I know it’s subjective, but Jamk, how would you characterize yours, and what will you mostly play on it?

And, congrats. Love Ed’s understated class on the Halcyons.

#234 - A wonderful small jumbo fan fret with cedar over walnut. It's an absolute wall of sound.

Love my Halcyon

Are those higher-number Hallies better than those crappy lower-number ones like you and I have?

Haven't played the earliest serial numbers, but my #245 MJ in Lutz/Walnut is superb.

You'd expect so right?
You know...with the one piece neck and all the other differe...uhhh...maybe that's the only difference?

Man if anything I'd say the new one is more responsive and "alive" than the early ones...but it only seems like that until you pick-up an OG and you go...oops...wrong. This is WAY more open and "active" than the new SJ. Let me try the adi/eir AJ. I know it's kinda thuddy and gibsonish. ....oops....wrong again. THIS one is the best most piano-like and alive and bottom-rich acoustic I've ever held. Give me that SJ again.
Sure enough...it's awesome too. No, better!! Awww man Facepalm

The differences between them are exactly what you'd expect, PLUS the added "unexpected" difference that they all share the same open responsive Halcyon voice.

Hey, looks like there IS a Halcyon sound.
AWESOME lol

The SJ doesnt have as much piano bottom end as the AJ but when you play it you'd swear that it does.
It does what it was designed to do. thank you. lol
It has the bottom end that you'd expect from a wide SJ. Bottom end that is prehaps a BIT more defined than the AJ's but not as fat.
It has the added mids/low-mids the walnut was supposed to bring and the Lutz sounds like sitka but plays like adi. It sounds like sitka with the headroom that the adi is known for and yes, it DOES encourage you to play up passed the 12th fret even if you aren't normally "that"player.

I have the old 12fret lutz/hog OOO the old adi/eir AJ and the new lutz/walnut SJ.
If I could keep just one it might one the SJ just because of the cutaway.
If I had to sell one it might be the SJ because it's the most expensive one and I need $.
Crazyiest thing is that I had the OOO listed for a couple weeks (no takers) and now the SJ is. If it doesn't sell I might list the SJ...but, might not be too easy to ship the EIR across borders.

SO Chooch...the new ones definitely stand-up to the old ones.
If it were me, I wouldnt be able to pick one over the other.

Pretty please could owners put up some sound clips to help buyers be aware of the sound of different woods, models etc? Sapele, 12/14 frets, different body shapes, Sassafras, Lutz - all these things. My build is ages away but there are so many comments on Halcyon but only a handful of videos/sound clips.
