Default New cover: "Landslide" (Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac)

My seven year-old daughter heard this song on the radio a couple weeks ago and went nuts for it, so I thought I'd give it a shot. In the middle of recording I abandoned the finger picking style of the original and went for a more up-tempo approach--sort of like if Leslie Feist decided to cover Stevie Nicks on a bad day. As always, comments and critiques welcome. Thanks in advance for listening.

I've heard covers of this but not very familiar with the original. Really enjoyed it though as much as I enjoyed your previous covers.

Thanks, Sage. I appreciate that considering the quality of your performances and recordings. Each song for me is an experiment and I never quite know what I'm going to get.

That was a nice version of this song. I especially liked the lead guitar.

Hi Sombras,

Nice work there! I'm generally not a fan of remakes because in the process of "making it your own", most people just "make a mess". But in this case, I'll definitely make an exception.

That was very nicely done!

Thanks Yamayairi and Gc.

Regarding covers--it's always a challenge. I always felt uncomfortable doing "straight" covers because I just don't sound like the original artists, so I unconsciously began adjusting the songs, or "pulling" them, more towards my strengths and away from my weaknesses.

Another factor is simple taste--I often hear a song differently from the outset, or it comes out differently than I envisioned during recording. For this song I actually thought I was done with the guitars and vocals ready for mixing and mastering, but the fingerpicked guitar just wasn't working for me. No matter now many re-takes I did, it just didn't work even though it was technically correct. So on a whim I did a take strumming it and it (mostly) worked.

Enjoyed that cover quite a bit. True to the original, but with just enough differences to make it unique and interesting. You did well on the both the guitar work and the vocals. BTW what are you using for your recording set up?

Thank you, Sanjuro!

Rode NT1-A mic-->Presonus Audiobox USB-->iMac-->Logic 9. Same mic for both guitar and vocals. Added a little reverb in Logic.

Nice job, I enjoyed that (and I usually only listen to instrumental stuff!)

Your daughter has a good dad to learn that for her.
