Default Early Morning Rain

From one of my very early influences, and with undying respect...

Very nice! I love that song, need to get it back out and knock the dust off. I wish I sounded that good singing it, though.

Thanks to all. Gordon Lightfoot's depth of story telling still holds as one of the best for me.

That is a great song for you. Honestly, it sounds like an original--you sound like the story teller. Probably because you love the song so much, huh?

Thanks for sharing.

This is great. I Love the minor chord on "rain"

Great voice. Great easy confident perfectly timed finger picking.

Default Early Mornin' Rain

As you can see by my user name I'm a diehard GL fan from 30 years on or so. Your playing on this song was terrific..loved the fingerstyle and your rhythym was spot on. Would love to see the tab if you have it.

Hi Lightfoote, I see this is your first post. Welcome to the AGF.

Pitar, that was great, both playing and singing. Hard to believe that Gordon is still touring.

Thanks all. It's an old and fairly obscure Gordon Lightfoot song from waaaay back. The Boeing ("Big 707") in the song has been retired for nearly 30 years.
Giving away my vintage.

I can annotate the chords to the lyrics but that's about all I can do for you who've asked for a tab. I pick things up by ear. Always have. I wore out many vinyls, too. I did download a tablature editor called Tuxguitar that tabs a score or vice versa so I'll see if there's enough gray matter behind my furrowed brow to figure it out. No guarantees - old dog, new trick.

The picking is a syncopated alternating style throughout embellished by walking the bass/mid notes either leading or following the verses, as seemed appropriate to me. To explain it beyond that would be me faking technical knowledge of music's structure.

The recording method follows and is how I record everything these days -

I recorded through a Zoom H4's onboard condenser mics pointed at the 12th fret and elevated to split the difference between two necks: mine and the guitars. The recorder is set about 2 feet away. Then, into Garage Band it went for a 15% touch of reverb and rendering. The guitar is a Goodall RCJC using D'Addario EJ16s. The thumb pick is a Planet Waves tortoise and is pretty heavy. It does what it does without a *snap* sound and gives a more mellow and consistent sound to the mids when walking up from the bass. Otherwise, I use fingernails mids and up.

Thanks for sharing your interest in this song and the very nice comments about it.
