Default guitar in the shower?

I read somewhere that's it's good to take your guitar in to the bathroom every once in a while while you're taking a shower to get it really humidified (obviously not totally in the shower with you). Has anyone done this? Is it good for the guitar? What have you all heard?

Yeah, and while you're there you can play a few bars... of soap, that is.

Seriously, I wouldn't do it. Wouldn't the extremes in humidity be like subjecting the guitar to temperature extremes? I would do that either.

Danger Will Robinson!

Seriously, I doubt whether the wood would (he he) react to such immediate changes in humidity in a good way. For example, if your guitar gets over-humidified, it takes a couple of weeks to dry it out. The reverse is also true, it takes some time to humidify a guitar.

Or you could your put guitar & case in the bathroom when you or your wife/husband/whomever is taking a nice long bubble bath and watch replays of the Lawrence Welk Bubble Hour!

Actually, I have done this (open the case of my guitar while I'm in the shower) periodically in the winter. I don't have the case open longer than about 10-15 minutes - just enough time to let the wood & case soak up a little moisture, and then I close up the case.

Actually, for those living in the 'cold belt' and who have trouble keeping the house humidity up, this is workable. Use common sense, but it would be hard to over-humidify a guitar with a ten minute shower (you, not the guitar...).
Right now its 11 degrees in Tulsa, and I've got three room humidifiers running and they can't keep the house moist.

Actually taking it through a car wash with your windows down is even better.

Everyone has a photographic memory, some just don't have any film. Or whoever told you that, is not the sharpest pencil in the pack. Don't do it Ollie.

That would be unwise.

Better to put two dampits/PW humidifiers in the case if you are experiencing very low humidity.

And always keep the guitar in the case.

Put it in the shower after you leave it out on the stand next to the fireplace where is a cozy 84 and extremly dry!

No really I would think that it would be a shock as if you would take it outside in cold climates then back immediately in the warmth.

I have always thought that quick changes of any kind were not good for a guitar. I wouldn't want to try it if it were mine.

Guitar in the shower??? C'mon....that's crazy.

Everyone knows the best way to humidify your guitar is to use it as a paddle on a whitewater canoe trip.

Plus....later on, you can dry out any excess humidity with a round of Kumbaya's by the fire!
