Gigs
Did ya ever help get a friend a gig at a place and now he is getting more gigs than you? Well it is happening to me. He brings in a different Female singer all the time and now he seems to be "the guy". It is definetly not a money thing ,I just enjoy playing out. Kind of burns me a little. Anyone have this happen?

When I left my last project (acoustic group) I gave them a contact list of places they should pursue. Since I was no longer interested in being in a band and focusing on keys and continuing as a solo "cocktail keyboardist" I had no interest and probably would not be in competition with them.

Ever introduce your girlfriend to one of your friends and he ends up marrying her?

Comparison is the thief of joy.
Sorry this has happened to you. I know of a duo who'd get paid gigs with established artists, form a "band," play the circuit a couple times, give the boot to the person who got them the paying gigs in the first place, and continue playing those paid gigs as the duo they are/were.

You should be happy for him and support him any way you can. Go see his shows and carry friends with you when you do. Be an encouragement. This stuff is hard enough without any negativity, you don't need it and he sure doesn't either. Who knows, if he is "the guy" in your area and he drops a good word for you here and there maybe your standing will rise also. 48 years of doing this and I can tell you one thing; what you do and how you do it is important in this business, but who you know and how you treat them is more important in the long run.

Repeat this to yourself: "A rising tide lifts all boats." Bob Taylor has repeatedly used that slogan when sharing technology with other guitar makers. Take for instance, did you know that Bob was brought into Nazareth, PA, to help Martin implement CNC cutting of parts?

Doesn't surprise me at all. Saw his interview with Chris Alvarado at NAMM 2024. It was encouraging to me…and only improved my already Pro-Bob Taylor attitude! |

I think the point of you getting him the gig is immaterial.
