Default Customizing my Guitar

I want my own guitar personalized and I was planning on drawing on my guitar using a marker or a nail polish, however I was hesitant on doing this, since I am not that Artistic and I might mess up and make a permanent mistake.

I was thinking of putting tape on it THEN draw? This way I could remove it if ever I make a mistake, and I could replace it from time to time.

Will a paper tape work? --> https://prezi.com/nki7ppk1gozo/10-scientific-attitudes/

Can paper tape stick to the guitar permanently?

Will this affect the tone and the sound of my guitar?

If not paper tape, what else can I use?

Specs of my guitar:
-Mahogany wood
-Natural Finish

Thanks in Advance!

I don't know.

But I always regretted doing these types of things to my guitars. I was always saddened when I went to buy a used guitar and someone had done something like this.

my $.02

I see nothing wrong with personalizing an instrument with benign cosmetics.

What I find disgusting are any amateur structural alterations to make it "better".

It's never better...

I don't recommend any tape or other adhesives which will react with the finish. I used a stencil and artists oil paint. Practice on something else until you can make a neat job of it. It won't hurt the sound.

Now go out and get famous and your personalized guitar will be worth more for who it belonged to and what it's done.

Why not use a sheet of thin plastic like a screen protector cover for a large tablet? I presume you have a poly finish on your guitar. If you have an expensive guitar with a nitro finish, you would be wise to leave it alone. You could then draw on the plastic, let it dry, and apply to the lower bout of your guitar. While it is not my cup of tea, I can see a young person interested in this.

Like adhesives, plastic has petro-chemical components which will react with the finish, especially in bright light and warm temperatures. Not a good idea.

Perhaps. But if it's a poly finish, it has to be a better idea than painting your guitar. Clearly, the OP is not that interested in a pristine finish on his guitar. Otherwise, I agree in principle.

Another option might be water slides (decals). You can create your art on the computer (or using any medium and scan it in) and print it off on water slide paper. These decals are a bit delicate if not protected with a clear coat, but not any more so than paint or marker. And without a clear coat they can be easily removed.

Clear pick guard material perhaps?
It's made to stick to guitar tops.

Another option would be inlay stickers http://www.inlaysticker.com/

My daughter wanted to personalize her guitar, so I got her some of these. She loved them, and she could change them out easily.

When she insisted on painting, I bought her a $35 beater. We enjoyed the process and I ended up buying myself one, too. Wall art!

If you really want to draw/paint on the guitar you use, though, I'd second the suggestion to just practice the design a lot until you know exactly how to do it and avoid mistakes.

I like the screen protector idea!
