Looks great! Looking forward to seeing the bound body after you get those two pieces of tape off.

Default Binding stories

Made a quick stop at the shop to pick up some stuff. And couldn't not take the tape off and do a quick clean of the top and back.
Had time to scrape the back, but only got halfway on the top. But its at least a little preview of the final result!

That's all for today, see you all next week!

Default Miters and endgraphs!

Most of the ziricote binding has been scraped flush. And the end graft has been inlayed, tried out a new design that I've seen a couple of other luthiers been using. And oh boi, I really like how it looks!

End graft process:

Cutting the slot

Making the piece fit, and all the mitres to join together. Then glue it in.

And after some scraping, this is how it came out

And some pictures of how the binding/purfling joins came out!

This is my first time that I'm working with ziricote bindings. But I can promise you it won't be the last. Love the figuring in this wood, and how it in a subtle way adds some woody context to the guitar!

That's all for today, I'll be back with more updates when the fretboard comes back from inlaying!

Default Soundport

Hello!

Still waiting for the fretboard to come back from inlaying, so nothing much has happened. Except I slipped with the drill and made a hole in the side!

Layout

Took a Dremel tool and routed the rough shape

Then after a lot of quality time hand sanding, this is how it turned out!

Thats all for today.
I am expecting the fretboard to be back by the end of this week, so see you soon!

Default Slowing along

Hello!
This guitar has been sitting on the shelf for a while because I've been waiting for some threaded inserts that took ages to arrive.
But now I'm back at it!

Also got the fretboard back from inlaying, couldn't have been more happy with how it turned out. The quality of these inlays is just so good!

Then I've been fitting the neck and making the neck joint

Fitting the neck

Routing out the pocket

Tennon fit and glued

Gluing some wings for the neck

That's all for today, see you soon!

Default Porefill made guitar go up in flames

Things are happening, the body is currently being pore filled. And the neck is ready to be carved. I'm hoping to be in the spray booth with this guitar in a week or two

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bending the ebony backstrap

Glueing it in place

And there we go

------------------------------------------------------------------------

A dry mockup, to make sure the nut slot is the correct width

Glueing the fretboard with all the clamps the house got to offer

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also "inlayed" the logo

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now to the body. Basically just finish sanded it and smacked on the first coat of epoxy pore filler. Always just as fun to see the wood come to life, especially when you have something that's really figured like this walnut

------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's all for today, see you all soon!
