Shhh.. $350 guitar played below (not me playing, I wish, lol - in my signature is me playing a $425 guitar {used})

Not everyone has $2,500 to plop on a guitar. Nothing wrong with discussing lower price point guitars. Do you want me to start complaining in every thread that starts with "What strings should I use?" I've only seen that 100,000 times....

Next time I will submit to you a permission slip before I post a new thread....

When the Yamaha LS - ARE series was released in 2014-15, Lee Ritenour did a promo video playing the LS-16. It sounded amazing, (of course in his fingers, a rubber band would too).
The guitar is so great sounding and playable, I often ignore Collings and Martin guitars I have.
Everytime I go to Nashville, I see amazing pickers playing low cost Guild acoustics.

I don't know about comparisons, but I have one of these and it's pretty awesome in it's appointments, playability and sound for an all mahogany parlor, especially at what I got it for used. I'd like to compare it side by side with the Martin O-28VS I liked so much in the store when I played it, but which was rather quiet, even with a nice spruce top, and was priced at $3K more.

Nice playing, but it does actually sound like a $350 guitar.

Well, I'm just gonna say that the Epi AJ45 in this video, and one other I watched, sounds nothing at all like my 00L-17. I'm taking into consideration the limitations of video, though I did listen through my good headphones.

In fact, especially when he plays it unamplified in the first bit of the video, it sounds pretty darn cheesey to me. Eventually, after he tries different settings for the bass, treble, pre-amp, it sounds nice, but never the same or even similar to my 00L-17. And I'm not saying better or worse, just not the same.

This review by Spoon Phillips sounds to me very much like my own guitar.

So, I don't doubt that those guitars sound the same to you, Barry, but I wonder how much time you've actually spent with them. I suspect we may tend to play a guitar for 10 or 15 minutes at Guitar Center and then think we really know what that guitar sounds like. I do believe that in a small amount of time it's possible to be turned on or turned off by a particular guitar, but to really know it, I think takes more time.

Of course, maybe it's because I'm playing Black Smoke instead of Whiskey Sunset?

Wink What "trade secrets" have you discovered?

Every-ones ears hear a different tone. Humidity, room area, and more must be taken into consideration. There are no secrets...

I should add - I consider the Wechter T0-8418 as a budget guitar equivalent.. in other words Wechter T0-8418 = budget guitar.

I have no idea if it's supposed to be a clone of some sort of Martin.

I bought it as a campground beater and I really just like it for what it IS.

After a setup, fret polish and bone saddle the Yamaha FG820 is exactly what I'm looking for in a acoustic guitar.

I recently picked-up an Ibanez AC240-OPN that I had NO intentions of buying when I went into GC just to window-shop and pass some time. However, it impressed me so much, that I felt I had nothing to lose at $299.99. To my ear, it sounds as good as some similarly designed guitars costing 4x as much; HOWEVER--and it's a big however--it isn't in the same league as those I've owned/played costing 10x as much. Is the difference in characteristics worth the difference in cost? The only opinion that matters is the one who's shelling out the $$$.
