Default Help me decide which top to choose for a custom build

I have a choice of four Port Orford Cedar tops for a Dreadnought I'm having built for me. They all look great to me. Does anyone have a preference for what you might choose?

I like #3 the best Paul. Just my 2 cents? Nothing wrong with any of them...

#2 would be my second choice except it looks like some little knots in the middle. I dont like the stripe of #3 and #4 just looks all wrong for a top. Maybe for a back. Youve really only got one choice.

I wold let the builder do his "tap tone" on them and then let him choose the one he thinks will sound the best... this, unless you absolutely abhor one of the four choices.

None of them are "perfect grain" in the way that spruce can be, and I'm not sure that any Port Orford cedar has that "tight-grained"-spruce appearance...

I would ALWAYS go with the builder's choice, so far as a piece of wood goes...

Yes, let the builder do his 'tap-tone' test .. then pick #3.

That's not a bad idea.

Default choice of POC

I'd take #1 only IF they sound equal to the builder; otherwise, I'd take the best tapping one. POC is one of my favorite woods.

3 is visually the best--easily.

But why doesn't your builder tell you, instead of you telling him the results of an AGF poll?

3 looks the best, but looks can be deceiving. I vote for the builder to use his experience to pick the best top.

It's port orford cedar which is not really cedar. It's closer to spruce but has some of the clarity of maple.

Because he said all would work equally sonically. He said visually it's a matter of preference.

Same here. Looks like we're in the minority but I like that first set.
