Default Help me to decide on two 12 string guitars.

There are two 12 string guitars for sale on craigslist that I'm interested in but I don't have time to test out both guitars. Should I go for the Breedlove Solo 12 concert, with laminated rosewood B/S and solid sitka spruce top or the Taylor 150e 12 string with laminated Sapele B/S, solid Sitka spruce top. Both are in the same price range. Which one would you choose?

Flip a coin.
Seriously without playing them all you're going to hear is someone elses biased opinion.

Taylor imo.

I've owned both Taylor and Breedlove guitars.

NOTHING plays like a Taylor does. Breedlove does make good guitars though

Default Choices

I'm a fan of Breedlove and not a big Taylor fan, but I have to go with the Taylor between those two. If you're just looking for a 12 string to get your feet wet it's a great way to start.

Down the road if you want to get serious about 12 strings, you can start looking for your vintage Guild.

Taylor does seem to go out of their way to make entry level guitars that are easy to play, and that is certainly a big consideration with a 12 string. Couple Taylor's playability with the big tone and volume of the dreadnought body style and it's easy to see why they're so popular.

Thanks for your replies. I think I'll check out the Taylor. The resell would probably be easier if I want to upgrade in the future. Wouldn't you agree?

Between the two, I would also give the Taylor 150e the nod.

Good luck!

Not really a totally fair comparison.....
The breedlove solo is a Concert Size.....much smaller.....and was comfortable to hold and play...and its a SOLID RED CEDAR TOP...not spruce...at least mine is....an important reason I bought it was the red cedar......and rosewood lam back and sides. it has a warm more mellow sound....like somewhere between a jumbo 12 and regular a 6 string...like a .75 percent 12 string..ha..anyway more pleasing to me personally than the big jumbo Takamine I also played....which was loud and nerve racking...I also like the sound port...I have hearing loss issues....and the pinless bridge system...and a cutaway...its just innovative and not your vanilla standard dred shape 12. It just turned me on, its eye candy and I like different ........

I think this is a pretty accurate soundclip on the solo

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=O3L5_IgBUmU

The breedlove studio is same size, but with maple and spruce and a sun burst.

you should really try them both before deciding. Everybody ears are different....and how they fret...hold a guitar...so on

I am sure the taylor is also a very very nice 12 and
there is a taylor 150e very cheap on my local craisglist....I may buy that also if hangs there long enough...

Thanks for your reply, but the Breedlove solo that I saw on Craig's list has a solid Sitka spruce top, not a red cedar. It was made in South Korea. The red cedar ones I believe are made in China.

Hi, mine is made in Korea...and its cedar..Hmmmmm..I think the poster of the craigslist ad does not know what he is talking about..or ignorant of the top tonewood...and maybe just a honest error he assume all top wood is spruce. From pictures and grain you can tell the differennce between spruce and cedar...I am not sure they ever made a sprucetop????

It may be a moot point as you seem to be leaning towards the nice taylor.

My choice would be between a GAD Guild and a Yamaha.
To me, both are great choices at low prices.

Here is a link to the actual guitar on the Breedlove web sight: http://breedlovemusic.com/acoustic-g...lo-c350-sre-12
It clearly says the top is made from Sitka Spruce. I listened to both guitars from recording on youtube and I have to admit the Breedlove sounds very sweet! I just may end up buying that instead of the Taylor.

Did you see this Breedlove Pursuit 12 in the AGF classifieds for $300?

Yes I did see it. Thanks. I'm going to Sam Ash tomorrow to play a Pursuit 12 and a Taylor 150e. I'll get a good feel for both and then decide which one I like better. Of course the Atlas Solo will probably sound better then the Pursuit due to the woods used.
