You didn't lose anything in the bargain - IME most guys/gals who prefer Gretsch guitars use a minimum of effects if any, and if you have the right amp - think a mid-powered tube combo with a minimum of bells-&-whistles (Fender Blues Junior, Hot Rod/Blues Deluxe, Princeton/Deluxe/Super Reverb; Vox AC15/AC30 [especially the AC30S1]; Bugera V22/V55; '60s-vintage blue-check Ampeg Reverberocket, Gemini I/II, et al.) - you're not likely to find a better straight-ahead guitar-cable-amp instrument...

BTW I noticed the Gator Journeyman case in the background, and I'm kinda surprised you didn't get one of those: it's not only a period-accurate aesthetic complement to your '59, but it's a near dead-ringer for the $600 "Western" case that ships with many Custom Shop Gretsch guitars - remove the Gator nameplate and only an expert would know the difference at first glance - and $10 cheaper than the factory G6241FT gray plush-lined hardshell case you purchased...

Use it well, often, and twangy...

That has my worn olive drab casino in it. Another very interesting guitar for the price. The Epiphone case was 50 bucks more, out of stock at the time and that did look cool 😎

When they first introduced this model (made in Korea), I was visiting the Fender corporate headquarters in Arizona. And in their gift shop, they had one of these hanging on the wall which I played. It was a FANTASTIC guitar. I own 3 professional series Gretsches, and this Korean made one was set up just as well as any of mine, and gave up nothing to them in play-ability or tone, so CONGRATS on your new guitar.

Truer words were never spoken...

Them that wanted one, I hope ya got yours before they went over to MIC production - they've been discovered and prices are rising accordingly, especially for the 5600-Series semis...

Yours would be Chinese production (check the back of the headstock) - which I understand has made significant strides in QC since the first mediocre-at-best ones I played just before the lockdown...

TMK Sweetwater still had a few Korean-made 5420 '59s in stock until about a year ago - BTW several of your fellow AGF'ers own (and love) them - and Thomann had the Euro version (same trim, slightly darker finish similar to an original 1960's double-cut Nashville) into the early part of this year; don't know if the latter is still available, but if it is some lucky pickers are going to come away with a real gem for not a lotta bucks...

Um, I hate to be a spoiler here but Sweetwater is offering the 5420 '59 for $100 off during Cyber Week:

https://www.sweetwater.com/store/det...vintage-orange

It might be worth calling your sales rep to see if you can either negotiate a cash/credit rebate, or the equivalent amount off your next purchase; I've heard conflicting reports as of late, but IME they used to be very good about stuff like this in the past - in either event, nothing ventured nothing gained...

Default Essence of BTO

Takin’ care of business

my solo playing still a work in progress…but the riff came out pretty solid.

No effects except crunch on the dsl40…
