Default String prices.

I use D'addario EJ16s /17s and Martin MA540 and 550 on my flat tops.

I'm down to two sets of EJ16s, and five sets of Ej17s so I went on Amazon and Ebay to find the best prices.

I used to buy ten packs of D'addario, but since they changed to a poor quality our wrapping, I just buy 3 packs.

The cheapest price for Ej16-3d pack is now £28.75 - which equates to $37 USD.

I could get the same product (3pack) from Amazon, which says 2 pack and item "made in Italy" which says to me that they may well be fakes.

However I could buy a "promo" pack of MA540s for £15 ($19.28).

I could buy a set (1 set)of John Pearse, for £14 ($18 my previous experiences are that they are poorly packed and pre-corroded - so not feasible.

Fender strings ?? Oh the shame!

What does this say to you regarding the REAL cost / quality of product ?

Smile Going UP….

Everything is going up in price, pretty much…

I don’t expect to see prices fall until the volcano blows and civilization crumbles…

I would never buy strings on Amazon and would only buy them on ebay from a trusted large seller like Sweatwater etc..... Just so many fakes.

What is wrong with the EJ-16 10 pack packaging? I opened a brand new box, ordered direct from D'addario, last week and all the sets were nicely individually packaged in sealed plastic like always.

We don't use Sweat-water here in the UK.

Glad I've got about 50 sets of EJ16's stockpiled - and I don't go through them as fast as I used to.

Last time I bought any the 10p price was under 40.00

I don't remember what I paid for my last order of strings. Only a few sets at a time and different brands.

Frankly, given the cost of strings relative to what I paid for the guitars, I actually don't care what the cost is per set. Also, I don't change strings all that often, likely far less frequently than many here but it's all based on the sound that I'm hearing from the strings/guitar. I change when I 'think' they need to be changed.

I've still got a few sets to work through and then I'll buy some more. Again, don't care what they cost. If I need new strings, I buy new strings. Period.

That's what I would recommend.

I’m dreading seeing the price of strings nowadays. I’ve got a decent stockpile since I would always buy a couple of sets every time I shopped, even if I bought nothing else. But it won’t last forever, and I’m going to need some sooner than later.

I have a big stash of strings. Every time I see a sale, I buy more strings. Between me and my wife we are running 16 guitars now. To keep that many guitars in strings takes a good sized stash. I still change them at the first sign they are going flat.

String prices have certainly increased in the past year or so. Quite a bit for many. Still, and even more so in recent months, reputable sellers are offering discounts. For example, three sets of Elixer for the price of two, the same with SCGC for SCGC Parabolics, etc. At a local music store, I picked up five sets of D'Addario XS on sale for $12 per set (normally about $19 or 20 each).

I'll just buy at the sales.

I buy my Martin Lifespan on Amazon UK. I only buy them “sold by Amazon”. As far as I know or assume, Amazon would only deal direct with Martin(or their uk distributor), correct me if I’m wrong?
