Gostwriter, I'm pretty settled on the Yamaha CG192S. It's more money than I wanted to spend, but I'll be happy with it. I have to save now. I've been checking in on Craigslist now and then, but nothing yet. Thanks for asking.

I wouldn't write off the C5 just yet ... they can be a bit hit or miss.

But yes, generally the cedar is much more mellow. I opted for spruce on my classical and love it (not C5). But know that you can offset some of that with brighter / higher tension strings. Also, the generally lower action on the C5 kind of restricts its volume so theres that factor as well.

Best of luck on the search! That part is truly half the fun.

I opt for spruce too. Two reasons: 1) I like the punch spruce gives 2) My cat tested + for some allergy to cedar. She might be ok, but I hate to buy a guitar she's allergic to.

I should add though that I used to own a C5 (cedar) and now my cGAS is starting to kick in a little bit and kind of wanting a cedar top to compliment the spruce top ... I know, this is always how it begins lol.

I put a Cordoba C-10 in layaway. It's more money than I wanted to put out, but layaway makes it possible over a period of time.

Default A Good Budget Classical

I like my new C5 though I agree the tuners are cheap.

I know that the OP has already chosen a guitar (Cordoba C-10) and that is a fine guitar indeed.

I just wanted to chime in, just in case others come across this thread looking for some suggestions. I recently purchased a classical not to long ago and ran the gambit of all the usual's that get recommended. On a whim I decided to go try out a Walden classical, since I was so happy with my steel-string from that company.

I have to say I was very surprised and delighted that they sounded very nice. I also like how they have two carbon-fiber reenforced rails in the necks.. a bit different then the normal ebony strip (which does look very nice, I have to admit). I ended up deciding on a Walden CN2030. The action was perfect and I didn't have to fiddle with it at all. Sound is nice and warm. Not overly loud, but I prefer to play softly. All-in-all I am very pleased with the guitar I chose. The price wasn't bad either. I picked it up for $635+tax, which I thought was a great price for an all solid (Cedar over EIR), well built guitar.

Just figured I would throw that out as an option for others who may be interested.
