Good decision. I have the same issues you do, plus arthritis. Consider the $600 Martin D Jr (24" scale) or the Taylor Gs Mini (23.5" scale), both of which I own and are terrific. The Martin is overall the better-sounding instrument, in my view, so it's become my main guitar. But I keep the Gs Mini near the sofa and it's loads of fun to noodle on. Martin also has an OOO Jr which shares with the D Jr the same scale. If you want a top-notch instrument with a shorter scale, try a Martin O or OO size, which have 24.9 in. scales. I also use custom light (11-52) strings and have heard that silk and steel are the easiest to fret. Haven't tried em yet but plan to. Good luck!
