Default 1972 Ovation Legend Deep Bowl

My friend recently found this guitar in excellent condition at a GC for $300. It has no dings, no scratches, no top or finish cracks, no fret wear. And it sounds every bit as good as it looks. The action and playability are still as new. It is said that Tony Rice recorded some of his early albums on just such a guitar. When you play or hear this guitar, it is impossible to tell (except by the unusual body shape) that this is not an all solid wood guitar of the highest order.

This guitar could have been mine. I spied it on the wall when I purchased my Gallagher, but I was so excited by that purchase that I didn't take time to examine the Ovation. But I told my friend about it and he made the purchase the following day.

One of the builders at the Ovation Factory told me once that there a lots of very nice guitars out there, but every once and while you come across one that "just has it."

It sounds like you may have found one of those.

Which is why I still keep my eyes open. I should be well immune from GAS, based on my list of guitars, but I still know there are ones that just may have something ELSE I need to hear.

I had a deep-bowl Ovation from about the mid-80s to the early 90s - seven or eight years or so. Took it everywhere, gigged it many, many times, and even recorded with it. It was indestructible and completely reliable. I had more fun with that guitar than with any acoustic I've had since. My guitars now are better in every way, but the memories I made with that Ovation can't be surpassed.
Hope your friend enjoys his.
