Default (Another) Groove Terminology question

Hello All
Looking for some midi and/or Rex files to accompany a song I’m working on.
To narrow down the search it would help to have the name or correct “Groove terminology”.
Below is a sound cloud link to a short (low-fi) demo of the perspective groove.

Edit: I was sampling, some marching type drums with ghost notes, but they’re not quite fitting. If there’s a song with a similar groove, I’d be interested in hearing about it.

Thanks

That sounds nice!
Probably not correct, but to my ears it sounds like modern Appalachian. It has that tinge of Irishness to it.
I like it. Good luck with it moving forward.

Not sure you'll find a name for it...it's pretty much a straight 4/4, I could hear a basic drumbeat putting the kick on 1 and 3 and the snare on 2 and 4 fitting just fine.

I was hoping to find something a little more interesting . As I mention in my edit I tried out a couple of different marching type of grooves. They come close, but the ghost notes don’t line up exactly. I might just wind up, creating my own beat or editing some of the beats I find.

I immediately thought of the theme to "Rawhide".

M,
I found just the thing that I would like your riff played on top of. I made up a description (half-time gallop drum groove 110bpm) and got it on the first try:

Try it with an Irish "reel" backing. It's 4/4, played fast.

Yep, that is really close to what I had I’m mind.
Definitely going to do a deep dive into it

Thanks

Ha, at first I thought …no way, but I’ve been playing with it and it adds another dimension that I can sink my teeth into. Going to play with it for a while.

It’s always nice to get fresh ears (insight) on something

Thanks

That's pretty much what I assumed would be your first reaction, but I was hoping you'd give it a shot, because it allows that great guitar piece to have all the forward rhythmic motion with room to float, and bounce off when desired.

I really like the section you posted and I look forward to hearing the growth!

When I recorded my piece, The Rhytalin Kid, I needed a track to play to, and found one, much the same way: A verbal description of the beat I needed. The one I found, though, had 8 separate tracks available, so my engineer/producer, Fred Guarino, was able to balance, extract, cut & paste as needed.

If you'll indulge me for a moment.....here's the Youtube link to the 108bpm drum groove I used, and it's over 5 minutes long, so just get the basic idea listen for 15 seconds.

Then this is what the final product sounded like with my 2 guitar tracks and vocal. The drums don't come in for about 1 minute. We just made finger-snaps for the intro section, and lifted the congas from a track we did on an earlier CD track.

Have a great new year!

Howard Emerson
