Default RESOLVED FOR NOW! Sub $1000 all-solid mahog/spruce 00/000/OM recommendations please!

Resolved in post #65
http://www.acousticguitarforum.com/f...7&postcount=65

Hey folks!
Title says it mostly.
I have a really nice Indian rosewood/spruce OM, which I love, but I've always loved mahogany more than rw. so I started looking around for a nice affordable/cheap all-solid wood spruce-mahogany acoustic with a nice medium size body. Scale length I don't really care about, don't want too wide or narrow a nut. Neck profile I can also adjust to, but C-D, or mild V are all good.

I'm located in the EU, but since the offerings in this price segment are basically all Far-East made instruments, prices won't differ too wildly.

I have a couple of contenders, like the Cort Earth series all-solids, Recording King, Stanford Old Mommy, the Asian built Larson Bros guitars used, Blueridge used or if available, Guild GAD (or equivalent current) especially their all mahog smaller model. Also Epi masterbilt if all else should fail (not a fan of their finish) but if you have a good tip, a secret winner, please let me know.

Thanks for your time and advice.

SD

Yamaha LS16M. I have no affiliation with Yamaha, I just appreciate a fine guitar.

I think he is looking for a spruce top with solid mahogany back and sides. The wording was kind of confusing and I initially thought he wanted an all mahogany guitar.

Martin Road Series 000RS1

Not as robust as their 000-15, but pretty close at almost half the price. It's all hog though, so it may miss the mark.

There's a nice Seagull that meets your requirements. In the US, it's about $650.

I have not played this particular guitar, but I do have a Seagull S6 Dread, and I completely agree with the general feeling that Seagull makes guitars that play and sound well above their cost.

A Larrivee OM-03 fits well within your budget and fits your requirements.

Simon and Patrick Woodland Pro Folk comes in all mahogany or spruce over mahogany versions. Well under a grand. Slotted headstock. Simple unadorned look to them.

Guitars I have owned that fit this bill include Larrivee OM-03. Great guitar. Buy it used. . Also the S&P Woodland Pro Folk recommended above is nice. I owned one of those for a bit.

I also think Martin 16 series guitars are very nice, and on the used market a lot of those can be found.

There is a Stonebridge guitar a couple hours drive from me that has me curious. I see people recommend them. But I have yet to play one.

Good luck!

Seems like the Eastman E6OM would be a nice fit?

The Guild OM-140 is right up there with any of them in this price range.

Normally I would say a Larrivee OM-03.

However since the OP is in Europe and Larrivees are scarce there I would recommend a Furch instead.

In my opinion the #1 guitars to consider on your search should be Eastman E6OM and Eastman E10OM. You can't beat them for value on the dollar and they compete with the very best guitars made IMO.

Wow, thanks everyone, wasn't expecting such a swarm of replies (nor the Spanish Inquisition). Will get back to everyone's post later.

All mahogany is fine as long as it's an OM/000/00 body. My two favourite surprises with acoustics were both of that ilk. (a '50s 000-15 and a modern day Guild M-120 respectively)

Agreed! And I'd add the E20OM as well as the E10OO 12 fretter.
