Newbie needs help with Guitar
Hello to All. I just came into possession of an old Lyle acoustic guitar.
The model number inside the sound hole reads W-50. I've searched the entire web and I can't find any info on this model. It's not even on the Wikipedia list of Lyle guitars. I can tell you that it's not like one of the numbers wore away or anything, the W-50 are as plain as day. Any info would be helpful. Thanks in advance |

Hi! and welcome! Not much available on old Lyle guitars. They were made in the Matsumoku plant in Japan for most of their existence. I have seen a very few labeled Made in Korea. They varied widely in quality. My first 'nice' guitar was a Lyle W-460 Hummingbird bought in a pawn shop in 1974. It was all-laminate spruce over mahogany but it looked like a Gibson Hummingbird and it sounded good to me. Some of the higher end models were solid tops, but not many.
Sorry I can't be more help but all I've found on the internet over the years is a listing of models. No specs, no descriptions.

All I want to know is how they arrived at that name.

L.D. Heater Company in Oregon was the sole importer of Lyle guitars. I always assumed (and we all know the danger inherent in that!) that Lyle was what the L. stood for.
