I didn't think Seattle or Spokane were thousands of year old. Who knew?

Yeah, I tried to clarify my original statement, Tattoos seem to be a west coast thing, when I lived in Boston, most people that had Tattoos were ethnic or in gangs,

But whatever, general observations are never true to fact,

I'm wondering why any of you care what someone else does to their body???
I've got about 10 tattoos and do not and will not regret any of them nor do I care
what anyone thinks about them.

There's a local parlor (probably out of business now) that had a bumper sticker they gave out - it read: The ink and the metal are just souveniers, it's all about the pain.

Hmm - not for me.

As Buffett said "permanent reminder of a temporary feeling"

One which I'm thankful I never had.

I saw or read or heard somewhere that you can't be a blood donor after getting a tatt. Anybody know if this is true or BS?

I am an active donor.

There is a waiting period of a year before he red cross will take your donation due to hepatitis risk

I have 4 tattoos, and the only disadvantage in the job market is that I need to wear long sleeves to an interview... hey wait... I would have to do that anyways.

I'm a graduate student and I work in the mental health system. Nobody at the university (where I've been for 4 years now) knows I have tattoos, and everyone at work does. Its not like its a big life changing thing where you get a tattoo and you go from respectful person to unemployable dirt bag.

That being said. There are definitely some tattoos that hurt your chances no matter how charming you are. Neck tattoos, face tattoos, and hand tattoos. I'm not one to judge, I actually think in terms of the body side of the neck and top of the hands are, aesthetically speaking, the best places to get tattoos. Just in the real world... not so much. Its a culture thing, and I suspect those who get them do it partially for that reason.... More power to them.

I think the HIV/cook comment was unfounded though. The business has gone a long way, and our understanding of the disease has changed since it was discovered in the late 70s. Not to mention society has only made a real effort to combat it since the early 90s. There is relatively no risk if you go to a shop that follows procedure (which you can demand, and should know yourself) like using new ink, fresh disposable needles, not using cloth chairs, using sanitizer between clients.. etc.

I have many of my professional employees who have tattoos. Some have signficant coverage but will wear long sleeves or cover them when in business meetings etc.

They are definitely great people so the tattoos don't at all reflect on them as a person.

But why get a tattoo if you have to hide it at work? Obviously there is a conflict there.

The one's I really think cause problems though are the face, neck and scalp tattoos, multiple face piercings, gauges, etc. That's fine if you're an Artiste'
but not if you are an insurance broker or a contract lawyer, etc.
