Default Art deco guitar

Hi...I'm planning to order a Taylor GA914ce. However, I was really searching for an acoustic guitar that has an art deco inspired look sort of like a Taylor Builder's Series V guitar. I like the GA914ce but the Cindy fretwork looks to me a lil girly. Any suggestions? Are there any acoustic guitars that have art deco styling cues?

Thanks!
Rob

Hi Rob,
For what the Taylor Builder' Series guitar and amp combo goes for, you can put a deposit on this:

I would look at John D'angelico guitars and maybe Monteleone. Might draw some styling cues there.

Stephen Stratton in Portland, Oregon makes beautiful, art deco inspired guitars. Nice guy too.

I would consider that guitar "Art Doily" rather than Art Deco.
I would describe Art Deco as being abstract geometric design.

Yes, well put.

That design has nothing Art-Deco about it, at all.

Unfortunately, Harmony stopped making these a long time ago...

There's an end block that reminded me of art deco in the thread about unexpected luthier service.

I really don't like much ornamentation on acoustic guitars - I hate abalone on rosettes and purfling, can't stand viney fret boards, don't want to see elaborate torch headstocks. But there is something about a refined art-deco inspired archtop that just makes my knees weak!

I'm an Art Historian by trade. That guitar is decidedly Rococo in its aesthetic aspirations. But more English than the full blown, sexualized French style. Possibly shop of Thomas Chippendale or late Giles Grendy, with a seeming influence in ornamentation from a German or Dutch enamelist who possibly arrived in London ca. 1688 with the rise to power of William & Mary. In this regard, Barococo may be the proper designation for Mr. Martin's guitar.

Almost any archtop (that I can picture in my mind) will look art deco.

And, that blue archtop in the previous post is just too cool.

Hi Rob, check out Jack Spira guitars. Headstock design is my all time favorite and is art deco inspired. Interesting bridge design as well. Really nice guy and very well thought of here in Australia. I believe he has guitars in some American outlets.

Jeff.
