Newport Guitar Fest video: Tony Dunne on his Todd Rose guitar-bouzouki
The videos from the Newport Guitar Festival in Florida this past April are starting to get put up on YouTube. Here's one of Tony Dunne playing the hot-off-the-press 10-string guitar-bouzouki I designed and built for him, accompanied by Nancy Conescu, also playing a guitar I made, and myself on a clay drum I made years ago.
The mix isn't so good in this recording. You'll hear Nancy's guitar more as the video goes on. The drum is very quiet throughout. But you get a nice taste of Tony's playing, anyway, and you get an idea of what his instrument sounds like. Both of these instruments have palo escrito backs and sides. The Allegheny (that's what I call my "small jumbo" model; 15 1/2" lower bout) guitar Nancy is playing has a Lutz spruce top. The drum is earthenware and goat skin. :^) Thanks for looking! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V18yAP8di_s Last edited by Todd Rose; 07-13-2010 at 03:55 AM. |

Nice to see you here Todd. The video is kind of a different take on a one man band! That must have been a lot of fun.
I love the headstock on that guitar too.

Todd, is that the instrument you had at the A.S.I.A symposium last year? It sounds really good.

Thanks, Walter. I exhibited the Allegheny guitar that Nancy is playing at the ASIA Symposium, as a "work in progress" - it was still under construction at that time. I love the sound of that guitar so much that I have decided to keep it as my personal instrument (I suppose I'd sell it if I had a customer who REALLY wanted it, but it would be hard to part with).
Tony's guitar-bouzouki (a variation of my Headwaters guitar; 14" lower bout) was little more than a pile of wood then, so this is the first you've seen of that one. Another instrument I exhibited at the symposium was my zoukulele. Tony also played a couple tunes solo on that instrument for this mini-concert. There should be a separate video on YouTube of that part of his performance; the guy from the Newport fest who's putting these videos up tells me that will be viewable soon.
