All right, all right, here's the story. We kept talking with the good folks at Allied about the mismatch. They were concerned, and offered for us to return this, but no way we're returning that back. But we kept watching their weekly flyer, and sure enough, another set came along that had those sides you see in Bob's picture. However, the back was itself a better match for Bob's original sides.
Are you still reading this?
In the end, a third set was purchased and we did some serious rearranging of backs/sides. What we ended up with are three nice sets of Indo rosewood and some serious frowns on our wives' faces.
But it's worth it, right?

Steve, of late, has been doing some remarkable purfling/marquetry. Trevor’s got some crazy-outstanding pics on TAMCO’s site of a couple of parlors (one still for sale) exhibiting some of Steve’s new-found talent…a few examples…

Steve talked me into some and gave me some options, which I’ll show you, shortly.

Steve gave me three options (he made up as samples) one I II. Another II III. And a third: I II III

You have to look very carefully.

That last one looks like I II I to me, I like them all so it doesn't really matter. Whatever you picked is going to be great!

Is that 1, 2, 3 or 4? Or did you mean eye to eye?

Like Tom said, you can't go wrong, but I favor the 1st one.

Beautiful back. I too went down the Indonesian Rosewood road, and I ended up with one heck of a guitar. Mine too had streaks of purple... I'm sure Steve and Ryan will make this one purdy!
thanks nootis...

And in deed I picked the first one... the one you liked, after it came down to 1 or 3... shown here:

Hey Bob, tell them why those colors. (There's a story in everything.)

Ah yes, I guess there is. The (inside) walls of our house, thanks to a fancy-pants interior decorator person-type are our favorite colors purple and 'moss green' - and to go with it 'tan'...but not just ANY tan, but (wait for it) 'paper bag brown'...so genius Steve, not only does he get the Blue Spruce out our front door into the guitar (for the top), but he chooses the marquetry with purple, moss green and paper bag brown!
